Question Interior light staying on...

My interior light is staying on. I would think it was the door switches, but the "door ajar" light on the dash is off.

Anyone have any ideas?

Check the thumbwheel for the dome light on your dash?

yup.

Thumbwheel position doesn't matter. Of course I didn't check to see if the thumbwheel was working either....

Checking it.

no problem...

The thumbwheel works. Is the "lights on" a seperate switch in the thumbwheel?

Electrically...

I meant was it an actuall sperate switch. Could just the "interior lights on" switch die and leave the wheel functional?

Wierd...

I pulled the fuse for the interior lights and they went off, but when I pulled the relay, they stayed on...

Did you check the little switch on the light itself?

i still say its a door switch. i would try a new door switch on drivers side first. if light is still on, that tells u the original switch was still good, so keep new one in, and pop out passenger side and put the original driver side one in there and see what happens. come to think of it, when u close the door on the truck, do the lights go out immediately, or do they stay on like 10-15 seconds then dim out? i mean how did they work b4 this problem. i have seen on the older town cars, the interior lights stay on for a while after closing the door, then they go out. we had a lady customer with an 89 town car complaining of the interior lights staying on constant, it turned out to be this little black box under the dashboard went bad. it controlled how long the lights would stay on after door was closed then make them go out. the box went bad and just left them on always. replaced little black box, and it was good to go. im not sure the Lightning works this way, thats why i was asking if they go out immediately when u shut door , or does it take a while. if they used to go out immediately as door was closed, my bet is bad door switch. hope i helped. Mike

Immediatly I think...

But since the "door ajar" light is off, it means the door switches are closed, so it's not one of them.

r u sure the door ajar light is wired with the door switches that operate the interior light? some cars have 2 door switches, one does the light, in door jam and another switch does door ajar. to be sure open one door, and look for door ajar light on dash, keep door open and push door switch in with your finger and see if door ajar light on dash goes out, if it does, then u r right. but i would try that on both doors just to be sure u rule out door switch. cant be possible both switches went bad. give that a try. My bad...

I thought I had to be different. After talking to my Service guy, he confirmed that there are two switches in the door, one for the "door ajar" light and one for the interiors.

Are the interior lights the only ones that stay on? What about the third brake/exterior lights or the hood-open light?

There must be a short-to-ground somewhere?
