99light in accident (pics)

last friday the L got rearended *arghh*. Someone wasn't paying attention and slammed into the rear end while I was stopped at a red light. I have no clue how fast he was going, but my rear view flew off the window, change flew everywhere.. crap flew out of all the compartments. He was driving a 77 ford truck. He seemed like a nice guy at least.

The damage is amazingly light, at least visually. We hit bumper to bumper so I think that's what saved us. Luckily I didn't slam into the guy that was stopped in front of me. I generally leave a big gap. And I think i'm much happier that the L got in the accident rather than the mustang. I dont think the mustang would have held up. Pics are below..

Check bed gap

You'll want to be sure to check your bed alignment. check that it's still straight with the cab. I got hit and there was no visible damage to my truck. But the car hit my hitch and bent the frame.

It seems he hit dead on.. the bed is aligned exactly with the cab, but it is pushed forward about a quarter inch, the moldings are touching as you can see in the pics.. I'm hoping that is just an adjustment. Nothing else seems to be whacked out except the rear bumper/hitch area.. The truck didn't pull to one side while driving or anything. Still drove just like it did before the accident. Any ideas on what the bed being pushed forward might be? I looked at the washers on the bed bolts, and it doesn't look like they moved.

What did they have to do with your frame? Fixable?

frame damage

Our trucks (actually all trucks) are prone to frame damage in an accident. I'd have a reputable collision repair shop take measurements of your frame to check for problems. Mine needed a frame pull to straighten things out. On the plus side, most good frame machines these days can get things back well within factory specs.

Gotta agree.Get rid of the hitch and get a roll pan.If you use the hitch then get a hidden hitch.Perfect time to do it.

I've been rear ended twice and that is the same reason that ihavent gone with the roll pan. From what i hear they dont offer as much protection to the frame and i really do not want to risk frame damage. Well good luck with the repairs, mine was usually about $1K each to fix.

The accident happened on June 27th, so its in the shop now. They are estimating anywhere from 4-8 weeks to do it correctly and last estimate on cost was just under $9,000.

Ouch.. well I hope things get straightened out(no pun intended). Are you having ford do all the work, or a different bodyshop?

I hope mine amounts to much less. hah. Good luck to you.
