Unhappy Hurtin for certain!!!

Hi Guys, I have a problem I was hoping someone could give me some assistance with. What does one do when there 1999 Lightning brakes down and after diagnonsis "from Ford " that my fuel pump went out (500.00 for the pump) Around 900.00 after all.
the truck only has 26.000 miles on it. Can you guys give me some ideas on which direction to go? Any help would be great.

Go Ford!!!!!

If they have not acctully looked at the pumps the clamp prolly just came off very common on the 99.

What Todd says,
Sals pumps are about $300 for the kit. Changing the pumps yourself is no big deal. If I can do it, anyone can.

Listen to this guy, he's right. I believe there is a TSB about this from Ford on how to properly fix this.

Also, why is it that you're not getting this done under warranty? A '99 w/ only 26000 miles is still under warranty.

If the dealer will fix this problem"loose clamp" then have them fix it under warranty.

If for some reason they refuse because of mods"bullsh*t" then give sal a call and get the upgraded 255's.
Like the others said,if ford won't do it,then do it yourself.
I have had my pumps out twice now and i am a shadetree mechanic at best, although sometimes i get the feeling i know more than the dealer techs when it comes to diagnosing problems with these trucks

There is a third option of dropping the tank and fixing the clamp on your exsisting pump if you feel you have no need or future need of the upgraded fuel pumps....but what ever you do,do not pay the dealer to fix this known problem.

Hey guys,
Thanks for all of the advice... I must say some of you guys have some sweet trucks... I shall upgrade if Ford is not willing to replace. I guess I can then contact Sal. I am expecting a call From Ford Customer Service on Monday morning. I have had the truck for 37 months. Am I expected to replace every 25.000 miles or so? I don't think so...
Anyway I will get back to you guys on Monday evening and let you know the results.
Thanks again,

Basically you have two pumps in your tank, that are Y'd together. the clamps they used aparently fail and the hose comes loose inside the tank yeilding either no fuel pressure, or low fuel pressure. It was very common on the 99's.

Hope this helps
Brandon

Hey PSBound...how do those Dual Magnaflows sound?

Are they low and rumbly with a distinct sound? Or garbled?

Also...what is the charger for FIPK? Never heard of one of those.

Anyways...I recommend you do what these guys say. They seem to know EVERYTHING

Rice Kicker.
These Magna Flows Sounds Low and Rumbly and are definitely loud when on the gas. I had to have a balancer made, to break up the garbly sound. The FIPK is just an upgraded K&N system.
You can get all the info. from your local dealership.
