not idiotic

The idea isn't idiotic, espessially with an open element filter.

The real question of benefit is how much static pressure the engine develops on its own and how much static pressure the fan can generate.

Most computer/case fans can't pull hardly any restriction (less than 1" static pressure), so if the fender is hard to pull air through its useless.

Also, if the engine is already generating say 2 or 3 inches of pressure in the fender then the fan would be useless.

The only way to know is to actually measure the pressure with and without the fan...

Maybe the extra hole in the fender from the sheetmetal screw punching through it will give you additional boost now?

Let us know if your SOTP meter records anything!

NOT FLAMING, just making a joke..

Heh, the fans would likely obstruct airflow more than help, except maybe at idle. Maybe if you had some that flowed 400-600 cfm or so... then again, the current draw on the battery might negate the negligible cool air gain...
2Cool, I GOT THE SOLUTION!

I'm considering mounting my gas powered leaf blower to the truck... 1800 CFM and no battery draw.... hook the throttle up to my trucks trottle plate... I'd have to get a fart pipe for it though... that would make the ricers jealous for sure... a superchargerd V8 with a leaf blower sound... wonder what would be louder, the leaf blower the the s/c whine...???

My comment was nothing against you ProblemInfected... I was reading through the posts going ooo, aaa, eeeek, thinking how rude some of them were, and when I read 2Cool's comment, that popped into my head...

I'm usually am the subject of flames, not a flamer myself...

I still don't see why it can't help an open air system... since very little air is coming through that hole anyhow, and more from the engine compartment supplying more cool air to the filter can't be a bad thing...

I have a cooling fan in one of my server racks that is rated for 750 CFM, but it sounds like a freaking jet taking off at high speed(it has 10 levels controlled by a thermostat based on heat). Since it would be louder than my engine, I'll pass... though I think it would help...

ok now, group hug!

Personally Problem I think it would be a good idea. The more cool air the better. especially considering its on open filter. Man some people on this board.

No offense...

I think the idea has some merit, I'd love to test it out...

I hope you didn't think I was raining on your parade.

2ManyToys:

Listen, if you can't handle the truth then why even post? Some of you post such ridiculous modifications that the majority of them could actually HURT the vehicle, if not help it at all. I'm not going to sit back and let some newbie retard new to mechanical work help someone to tear up or even worse, destroy their 35k investment. Nor am I going to watch someone invest money in things that do not work!

Now, if there were moderation on ALL sites that prevented things such as this, you'd never have to see me or others flying in to save the day! And you wonder where all the great techies went? Would you as an expert or experience car buff wade through the horse***** you see on some forums just to appease the last few remaining knowledgeable peeps? Trust me, the techies are still out there, but they've found their own kind! I'm just too darn hard-headed to mind my own business instead of allowing innocent newbies to make one-way decisions that could result in dire consequences.

Personally, what is even more retarded is all the pansie-assed, let's be nice to each other; hold hands and sing come-by-yum; etc...

If it looks like an idiot, talks like an idiot...it's an idiot. No need to worry about boosting it's self-esteem. All the kiddies are growing up and finding the internet...welcome to hell.
