Tailgate weight load Q.

Hey....every once in a while my friends and I run out of things to do and end up hangin out somewhere. Ill drop my tailgate & have a seat. Then, if Im lucky...a few girls will ask if they can do the same. My Q is how much weight can I put on the tailgate before damage is inflicted? Last night myself and 2 rather thin girls were on it, and I got to thinkin. Im about 170, the 2 girls were between 105 and 120, and im like...wow, there is like 400# or so on this thing right now. Does anyone know the weight load? Thanx guys

Alot!

I had a friend that just broke the cable in two because he put a 1500# hay bale on it. Before that he had placed like bales on it numerous times. His truck is a 1999 f150. Should be the same.

my guess is that it will hold alot. especially since the weight is spread out when people are sitting on it. Although, once in my 85 work truck, i had a 2x4 going across the tgate to prop a load of lumber and sheet rock up to keep any from sliding off (and i had ALOT of wood on there) and the left side cable snapped. i don't think a few people siting on the tgate should hurt it. The cable probably wouldn't have snapped if i didn't put the 2x4 underneath, cuz then it would have spread the load out. o well LoL

Anyway, maybe the manual will say...?

i would use common sense. if you have like too many "big boned" women, and the tailgate (actually the wires) make a metallic stretching noise, i would push them off. as long as there is no noise, you should be good.

yeah, tailgate sitting is a popular sport around here in mosquito land.. i have the "luxo-gate" since i have the bedrug..

i need to find some foam rubber pads to fill in behind the bedrug like it does for the bed of the truck..

i went to sams and bought a kick *** coleman folding chair with bag for 12 dollars.. i keep it locked in the bed of the truck.

anyway, back to your question.. me and a couple of my diet-challenged friends sit on my tailgete all the time.. thats what it was made for, right? lol

Thanx guys....was just a little worried. Actually put it to the test last night. My friend Fridge and I were sitting on it after I got home from detroits downriver cruise. Hes a linebacker, and we dont call him fridge fer nuttin! I would say were talkin about 6 foot 1, tippin 300#s. Im 5'11" and 170. Then 2 girls that are old friends rolled in and gave hugs. Anyway, they ended up poppin a squat on our laps. One is about 110, the other about the same, may115 to 120. Any way, no feet were on the ground, so I figure there was a solid 700+ pounds on that baby and all that happened was my truck dipped and looked like a southern cali chicano sled. I wonder if there is somewhere to get the actual load limit? Didn't see it in my owners manual.
