Do a search. This topic has been covered many times.
Put 'insurance' in the topic box.
In general, Lightnings are considered like regular F150's by most companies.
Of course young, punk kids get hit hard, as they should!

As of July 2002 my has gone up almost $200 due to them listing it on my policy as a 2001 Ford SVT. Last year it was listed as 2001 Ford F-150 and I was paying like 950 for the year now its 1140. So I think they are catching on.
I would find another insurance company. State Farm doesn't care about the SVT designation on the F-150. Then again, I am 30 with no accidents. So it really ain't gonna get any cheaper for me.
good luck,

Hey 02Thunder
I'm curious what your paying in insurance.
I'm 30, no accidents(knock on wood), no tickets(knock on wood), and married with an '02 L. I pay $62 a month-$500 deductible through State Farm in Indiana. Sounds like we have almost the same situation and was wondering the difference between the states.

Since I am an insurance agent I shall ask you some questions and let you in on some things...
How old are you? Are you still living in your parents household?
How is your driving record?
What State do you live in??
Through my company The Svt designation is not a big deal The cost of insurance was important to me. And I tracked the L vs a camaro, GT Stang and Corvette and this thing is like a reg truck.
You shouldnt have to pay more for the SVT than any other F-150 so tell your dad..Its no big deal..
Have fun!!!!
Get on your parents policy..You probably are already..Just dont wreck it or they might lynch you..

I have property insurance through State Farm also. My truck is classified as EXTREMELY low mileage considering I only put about 4000 miles a year on the truck. Sounds like our rates are about the same with a couple of variables involved.
Thanks,
Jason

02Thunder - your numbers are close to mine. I'm 37, married with a clean record. State Farm with $100 ded and 100/300/100 comp tow, I pay something like $80 /mo. I live in the Chicagoland 'burbs and have a 120 mile weekly commute, so my rates are a bit higher than they would be back in Indiana.
The four biggest things you can do to lower your insurance rates are:
1. Turn 25
2. Get married
3. Keep a clean record
4. Stay out of the big cities

Snoopy, I lived at Irving Park Rd. & Damen Ave for the first 20-some years of my life. Chicago State Farm agents rape you without lube. Period. But the burbs are definately more forgiving.
I now live in Orlando, and the vehicle is listed as primary transporation. I average about 15-18K miles per year.
I have no complaints with what i pay for insurance, State Farm has never screwed me over.

I am in west Texas, and my Allstate ins. agent is in Austin. I pay 60.00 a mo for full cov.
My agent asked for the vin, and it pulled up as a F150. I told him is was classified as a SVT Lightning and a 33K truck. He said this was his first time to issue a policy on a L. He offered to put "value 33K" on my policy as well just in case there was ever as issue about the net worth of the vehicle.
28 - clean record
50/100/50
500 coll
100 comp
towing, rental
You are very lucky to get a "L" @ 16yrs of age. I did not get a car until I was 18, and even then I had to buy it plus pay my own insurance.
