I nearly traded :-(

I nearly did it! It was either an '02 Harley (grey), or the '03 Cobra (grey). I was gonna get the '02 Harley on X-Plan, and the '03 Cobra at MSRP.

Decisions decisions decisions. I'm basically ruled out the Harley for now, but the only reason I didn't jump the gun on the '03 Cobra was because of the 34,750 asking price. I'm positive I can get this thing for about 31k on X-Plan eventually so I may just wait.

Damn, I love my Lightning, though :\

Wait for the price to come down or end of year incentives. They plan to build way more Cobra's than Lightnings so it will be just a matter of time before the price comes down.

The L has better lines, and the overall appearance is cleaner. The Mustang needs a big facelift. I have never been a fan of the 99-up bodystyle. Sure it has one heck of a engine, but we can make the L do a 12.5 with a few mods, right?

Agreed...saw a new Sonic Blue one at the track Fri night....looked pretty much like every other 99+ Mustang out there. Not impressed with the styling at all....it's not just about going fast...hell you can make a Yugo fast....but it still looks like a Yugo

Just my $0.02

At least you can look at it without falling asleep!! The Mustang looks like every other Mustang out there.
Lightnings are much more pleasing to the eye!!

Hopefully the new platform Cobras will have the same power and a more classic appearance. The looks of the 'stang have kept me from buying one in the past. The '03 has enough power to make me think about it though.

Very true, but with a few mods on the 03 Cobra you can do 11.60's. Like Chip/Pulley/Slicks....

Something I noticed about the '03 Cobra...

...it's crank pulley runs ALL the accessories. Some of you may have known this, but I bet most didn't. I noticed it yesterday looking at the two Treadwell Ford has here in Mobile.

Supposedly Evan Smith w/ MM&FF swapped it out to a Lightning lower pulley (I believe a JL 6#'er). One thing to keep in mind here is the fact that not only can you speed the supercharger up, but you're also slowing down the other accessories in the mean time, which in turn will free up more hp as well.

Keep in mind the 4.6's and 5.4's on our cars/trucks are internally balanced, so the old rumor of having to have a pulley designed w/ a harmonic balancer built in is not true. I still think we could gain about 15 hp if we had someone design us some accessorie pulleys.

The only problem is when is too big too much for the alternator and water pump, as well as proper operation of the power steering pump.

This could get very interesting.

talk to Lee at ASP. I've worked with him on bringing the 99+ 4.2 pulley to life.

He will custom make any pulley you want at a fair price too. $85 bucks for my custom 50% race crank pulley. anodized blue too .

He's based out of stafford.

Something doesn't add up there. You add a larger pulley to spin the supercharger faster, but it slows the other accesories down. Doesn't make sense to me.

There are two belts. I believe the SC belt also runs the alternator. A larger lower pulley to turn the SC would also speed up the alternator.

A stock Lightning upper pulley (293) is supposed to add 3# of boost to the Cobra. I don't know if the interchangeable upper pulley will fit or not; but, a 280 pulley should add 5-6# if that's true.

Man you sound like a guy I work with (HarleyBull on this board) he had a 03 Mineral Grey Cobra on order and was buying it on the D plan but common sense got the best of him and he drove home in a new Grey Harley on the plan. He figures the Harley will do a better job of towing the 605ci NOS equipped SN95 Outlaw car he is finishing up to the track. It would have been a sight to see a Mineral Grey Stang towing a Mineral Grey Stang to the track though , naww he would have borrowed the wife's Navigator I'm guessing.

True, but with a few more mods on the L you can get in the 11.60's too, and not have to worry about everyone thinking you have a generic looking Mustang.
