No, but I do drive 7 miles on Sunday to save $.10 a gallon. Sorry. Guess I'll just start paying more for gas. That makes it better right?

I guess when you leave the door open, all kinda stuff can meander in huh?

Yea... That’s right.. We don't want competition. We want to always pay the highest price. We want all our trucks to be the same color. We want …ah .. wait a minute… Should we be buying FORDS? Did Henry make the first Truck??? Did Goodyear make the first Tire???

Well, I just placed my order…

lets all face it, we have "limited production " trucks,, although they are a lot of the same parts as a regular f150 would have,, guess what, since there is a limited market,, all part producers will rape us,,, thats why anything that will fit on a mustang or will work with other cars tends to be cheaper,,, just look at the cost of headers,,,, its outrageous, but in many cases worth it, we did not buy these trucks to put Kmart special products on them,, after spending 30K on a truck, nothing is too much money to keep the grin going,,, its all about how much you are willing to spoil yourself. I for one say competition is great, more then great actually, if someone came along and made different long tubes for a cheaper price, i'd be interested,, not that they would perform differently, just that for the most part, competition is very good for the market on our trucks, and there should be more of it if you ask me.

I just ordered a set...

from some guy in Hong Kong. If they're any good, he and I are going to work out a deal where he makes them and I import them. He makes them from recycled Miller Lite cans for $.28/ea and I know I can get $20 for a set. He's gonna throw in a Windows XP CD-ROM with each set. We figure SS is overkill, and aluminum is good enough.

Competition is good!

The marketplace will sort out the price/quality issues.

It's the American way.

People,

This washer thing started approx, 2yrs ago by a friend of mine who is a tool maker who has a Lightning. Who is also on this borad. If my respond to this, I don't know? He educated me on the clunk noise and advised me of his fix. I have a few good friends at a Ford dealership that me the idea to market them. I ran it by my freind, and it went from there.

Now another good friend of mine who happens to be a lawyer informed me of this Patent thing. Now you want to talk money!!! It started with a patent search$$$$$$$$, and went from there. Some of you may know the process. It cost a few coins!! To get the grant made with the feds has cost a great deal of money! I'm not going to put anymore of or business about it over the net. I'm also not treating DL. But I'm prepare to do what I have to do! I'm glad I listen to one good friend!

Dl you are more than welcome to copy the design after the set time as expired. Or anyone for that matter. It's the American way.

All of the Lightning vendors go to area of the NLOC for a business deal that I'm thinking about!.. I'm going to Oregon on a washer deal and I will post the deal info when I return from Oregon.

Also I'm sorry Steve!!!!!!! I just couldn't sit back. I apologize for using the board for this!!!! Steve e-mail me and I will talk to you that way. If you like.

Herb

"...if you think this is a get rich quick deal.....think again. We have only sold some where around 220 sets of washers since we started over a year and a half ago. What that amounts to is that the washer deal has given me a Herb freakin lunch money for a year and a half. A standard f150 has the same slot that we have in the frame, but only a lightning has the clunck problem, I'm sure its because of the big tires and brakes. Anyway it seems to be a limited market..."

I thought you were just making sandwich money from this washer thing...You must be making a whole lot more than you are letting on, especially if you do have a patent or have already applied for one.

I say just weld it for a couple of bucks. No need for a washer!

:)

Herb, show us the link so we can see it, please. I've tried to search the patent database but have found nothing.

Thanks!

Just and FYI , just because it doesn't have a patent doesn't mean he can't patent it now. if you can prove you had teh design before someone else you can still attain a patent and follow through with a whole legal dealio. Most of the parts i make i simply take a picture, write a synopsis, and put it in an evelope and and mail it to myself. Is it a patent? no, does it offer protection if i want to go after someone if they steal my idea, yes!. And its about a thousand bucks cheaper. SInce to patent something you HAVE to have a patent lawyer involved to write the patent to write it generic enough to cover many areas so that someone can't change one nut and call it their own.

Copyrights, everything you make has a copyright, even if its not establish on the page.

Tm, Sm, ect are a whole nother game though...

Err, not exactly. Section 102(b) bars a patent if the invention was patented or described in a printed publication anywhere or “in public use or on sale” in the United States more than one year prior to the date of the application for a patent. If Herb has been selling his washers for more than one year, he cannot patent them. On the other hand, a competitor cannot now step in and patent them either. Further, as a practical matter, as mentioned above, $50 washers in a very limited market are not worth the expen$e to patent.

Just for the record, I bought a set of washers from Herb. I agree that the inventor should get some credit, whether or not the idea is or is capable of being patented. I made my patent post just to clear us a misstatements of the law. America is truly a "nation of laws" where understanding of the law by the average citizen is crucial to everyday life.

Herb fan,

TLS

American patent law is there to protect the consumer, believe it or not. If people don't have protection to keep the big, well-funded companies from ripping off the little guy's innovative new designs (COUGHMicrosoftCOUGH), they will stop innovating.

That is why medical companies are protected so well, even on non-patentable products. Why? Because if they're not given safe haven to make new products, our medical care will suffer.

If your Lightning cost you $30,000.00, and you are lucky enough to get 100,000 miles out of it, just the initial investment alone works out to $0.30/mile. That doesn't even include maintenance, upkeep, interest, etc. Hope you are getting more than 21 gallons in your fill every Sunday, otherwise you may not value your dollar as much as you think.
