Part # for in-dash 6 CD changer...

Have seen reference to this mod and also the aftermarket unit (Visteon, I think) that supplies Ford with them, but they want $600 for the unit. Dealership dufusses claim the Mustang unit won't work.

I understand that the Mustang unit fits; the Escape also has a similar unit.

Can anyone supply the specific part # for the factory Mustang or Escape unit that will also control the Lightning remote CD changer and the price?

Thanks.

Try doing a search on E-Bay for "Ford In dash". Always seems to be several there at good prices.

well jay to be honest with you , I took my Mustang cd6 out of my Mustang, and moved it over to my Excursion , and then the Expedition and they are the same as my Lightning was. they would fit but no way to mount, the faceplate I had with the the Lightning screwed in the same area , with alittle work it can be done, it is not a direct bolt in . And I do have a CD6 from my stang avail 300 miles on it

Checked out e-Bay and...

there are numerous units out there removed from various Ford vehicles. Can see by the pic of a Mustang unit the the vertical mount won't work.

There are many removed from other Ford vehicles that look outwardly similar to the side-mount necessary for the Lightning, but I guess I'll have to pull my std cassette unit and check out the connector plug-ins on the back. Most of the units on e-Bay have a pic of the connector busses.

Still, no definitive answer and it would still be a crap-shoot on the e-bay items w/o more info. I know with all the expertise on this site, someone will know and post.

Thanks, so far!

The part # I installed was 1C3F-18C815-AB

This part # is out of a F-250/350 truck, I believe. Simple plug-n-play, except for the cutting of plastic behind the DIN hole in the dash.

I had a thread in the "Other Audio System" with more details, if you want to take a look. Good luck!

What was the price on that head unit? Did you get it from ford or an online store?

Thanks

in dash cd player

Not sure if this will help but I am currently looking to buy an L, but have to sell my car first. I spoke with a dealer in Owensboro,KY who had all his 2002 L's being sold with in-dash 6cd changers. Maybe you could give them a call and they could point you in the right direction.
