I was wondering if anyone else is having problems with the new 28x14.5-16 hoosier quick time pro dot tires.

I have tried all different tire pressures from 12-17 and just can't get them to hook. I am running 10" wide american racing wheels.

I am running better with my goodyears, even getting a 1.71 60' time with the F1's. With the Hoosiers I am getting 1.8's and 1.9's

If I run them at 14psi I am real loose on the top end, at 17 psi I am a lot more stable, but can't hook at all.

I have called hoosier twice, they told me to go lower. I am about to send these things back, any help would be appreciated.

But how many runs have you put on them? New Hoosiers (in my experience) need a good couple of really long burn-outs to get up to traction.

Are you sure someone didn't swap your tires while in the pits and your 1.71 was on QTP's and the 1.8-1.9 was on F-1's

This is kinda off topic, I thought you had the 28 inch tires. Why did you decide to go with the smaller tire?

 

Opps that was a mis print I do have the 28" tires.

I have run them 4 times at two differnt tracks with the same crappy resuluts. I have 14 or so runs on them.

I think the problem is they are just to wide for a 10" rim. You can see the tread isn't flat, the center is higher than the sides.

 

The rim width seems likely. A 14.5" tire is huge. In this case 10" may not be enough. With 1.71 on F-1's why run slicks. Buy more Goodyear's.

I am running the 28-10x16 Hoser's and improved from 2.1 to 1.81. Our local track does zero prep so I was more than pleased.

Have you tried varying your launch technique? Are you now running a stall converter?

 

I am doing a test and tune at atco race track in N.J.. on tuesday with my Hoosiers.I have the same tires and wheels.Will get back with results.

I hope they work better for you than they have worked for me. I am about to break down and gring my calipers and run the 15" Hoosiers I have sitting in my appt. Then I will send these 16"ers back to Hoosier.

Let me see if I can make this sound right.
The 10" rim in this case is acting like the 7" rim with the MT ET, with the smaller rim you need more air pressure. Here is a test to do, do a small tire spin on some ashphalt and measure the width of the rubber print, keep doing this till you have the widest tire print possible. You may need to raise the air pressure up so as to flatten out the tire to get a max tire print. Example - 7" rim with MT ET Streets used 18 psi cold for best traction, where as a 10" rim with MT ET Streets needed 24psi cold for the same results.

Try it with your Hoosier's, I run the Hoosier slicks on 8" wide wheels and use 15 psi cold, this is where I get the most width out of my tire print.

I just ordered a set of the Quick Time Pro's, Maybe its the hot weather at the track?? I was hoping for some low 1.7's or high 1.6's??? Maybe it was the track that day??

The Measured for the Quick Time Pro and Slick is the same 8".

The Quick time pro is actually 12 inches wide on a 10 inch rim and the Drag slick is 10.3 inches wide on a 8 inch rim.

Thanks for the info, so far they have worked best at 17psi, bit still not what I had expected. The Tech people at Hoosier told me to go lower, all the way down to 12 psi.

Maybee I am going about this backwards, like you said maybee I have to go higher.

It does look like I am only using 3/4 of the tread, the outer inch on each side doesn't look like it is in contact with the track at all.

This is getting frustrating, I have tried 17, 16, 15, and 14 psi and nothing has worked.

If the outer edges are not making contact your rim width is too narrow. Pumping up the pressure will only make it worse. Too low of pressure and you lose contact in the center, too high and you lose it on the outer edges.
