Question FASTair Question

I sent an e-mail directly to Sal, but I thought I'd go ahead and get the take for your guys as well. I just installed my FASTair intake, and the problem I am having is I am scraping the scoop and bending the brackets when I enter and leave my driveway. I really do like the system, but this is n issue for me. The scoop, after a couple of days of this, is bent out of shape and the brackets are mangled pretty bad. It is holding, but it is not pretty to look at close-up.

My truck is standard ride height so it is not that I am too close to the ground. I have all ready asked Sal to see what I need to to do get a new scoop and what cam be done to remedy the problem, but I want to get your opinions and what you have done to fix this! It looks like just the bottom lip is getting it, but it is enough to bend it up and point it at the intercooler core. Perhaps a stronger bracket?

Thoughts??

If you can leave your driveway at an angle, you should be OK. Other than that I don't know what to tell you.

Geee...thanks for the advice. Moving right now is a little infeasible considering the market. I'm thinking the scoop needs a fix.

Anybody else?

Have you considered running the inlet up behind the grill? Someone here has done that, can't remember who it is though. Maybe somebody will remember.

Why not just raise the scoop up half-way, by re-drilling the mounting holes?

What distance was it from the ground before it was bent 'up'? Maybe you mounted it wrong(too low)? Mine is at least 7 or 8" from the ground????

Tom you can fix this pretty easy. Just unbolt the scoop from the brackets, and then lift the scoop up so that the brackets are even with the bottom of the scoop and redrill the mounting holes there. That should raise you a few inches.

Thanks guys! I only had about five-six inches under the scoop after installation (this was mounting as-is, direct from the box it was shipped in). I ended up heating the bottom of the scoop and bending it up a little to create a little clearance and remounted the small bracket above the intercooler core instead of below, and aligning everything based on that. No drilling required! It looks like that has given me enough clearance, as I have not dragged it since.
