Question FT valve body - performance vs. safety

In your opinions is the Factory tech valve body more for performance of the transmission or does it really help to make the transmission more fail safe with additional performance modifications? Or does it do both?

Good question, I would like to hear opinions on this as well.

Speaking of a different kind of safety, how is the Factory tech valve body in the rain or other slick situations?

L's in general suck in the rain to begin with... the valve body hasn't caused any problem for me... it only hits hard at higher throttle...

for info on the performance/reliability of the valve body, go check olut the Factory Tech's forum on www.nloc.net

his forum is towards the bottom... mayn have asked the question and he has answered it on there...

I don`t think you can make any transmission fail safe, but it does improve the performance, Ive had mine installed for about a month now and the shifts are a lot firmer than stock but not hard.
What it does is help the trans shift faster, helping to reduce slipping between gears and that reduces heat and wear on the transmission, so your trans should last longer.

Mark,

It is much better than just a line valve in performance and safety. I would get it for sure, I have it and love it....

The Best Thing About The FT ValveBody is when your passing anyone you might be trying to influence that the Lightning Rulz and your truck shifts into second and The loud screech of tires burning scares them into submission, How sweet it is

This is with a Chip as well as Fast Air, Stock Was Only A chirp

Next time you guys go for a ride try and watch your speedometer when that killer 1-2 shift occurs. Mine jumps from around 42 up to 60 in a fraction of a second.

In the words of Cartman <<<Swwwweeeeeeet>>>

Cool

Dagnabit, u guys kill me. I just called PSP and ordered it. You guys had me so wound up about getting one that I almost got them to overnight it to me. I figured I could wait a few days though. Now I just have to make a decision about the chip and pulley. Can not decide where to purchase a chip from. I think I want a 4lb. pulley and a single program chip. Not sure what to do there. Anyway, thanks for the replies regarding the valve body. It is on the way.

Get a 2-program-er. You won't regret it.

Shifts on wet pavement

The amount that I could normally accelerate through shifts on wet pavement has reduced, big time. I found out the hard way two days after I had installed my valve body. I was pulling semi-strong on a wet road (nothing crazy) and when I hit second the truck almost came completely around on me. The shifts are seriously strong, especially with a chip.

Make no mistake about it - I'm not ******* the valve body - I love it!!! But, I'm more careful on wet roads now...

Angry 1 to 2?

I'm not getting that nice bark from 1 to 2 with the FTVB... I had it with the JDM line mod, but now that I pulled the stock plate (with JDM Line mode installed) out and put the FTVB in, my 1 to 2 shift seems almost stock... very mushy... 2 to 3 still kicks...

I've emailed Greg 3 times and posted here and at nloc about it and he hasn't replied once... starting to get on my nerves...

Going back to the line mod soon... I lost 3 tenths on my 0-60 when I installed the FTVB...

grrrr...............

Yup, 1 to 2

Man, on dry pavement I lay down 50 feet of rubber on the 1-2 shift and bark the tires on 2-3.

I know of a 2000 Lightning that got a chip with increased line pressure for solid shifts and the 1-2 was sloppy as stock. As it turns out, coincidentally, his tranny started to go at roughly the same time and that's what caused the crappy 1-2 shifts. New tranny and the thing shifts good now. Any chance this is your problem? His went at 16K miles.

Sounds to me like your fluid is low....

There is no way you can lose ET with the Valve Body. Something else is going on. If the shift isnt right, it has to be the fluid.....

I wish it was fluid... I've checked ever 100 miles since putting in the valve body last week Thursday... it's dead nuts...

I just hit the 4k mark on my truck this morning... I can't imagine the tranny is going already...

I kinda wish Greg would get back to me and give me some insight... I have tried resetting the PCM also.

1-2 is stock like... but the 2-3 slams just like the JDM line mod did...

Maybe Greg's not answering cuz he's waiting for me to give up and order a monster box!

Regardless, thanks to all for the input...
