Help! Insurance problems.

I was all set to buy a nice white 2000 Lightning when I called my insurance company, ALFA. They said it was a prohibited vehicle and they couldn't insure it. I have had a C5 Corvette and a single turbo Supra in the last few years and insurance from ALFA for both those cars was very reasonable. How can a Lightning be prohibited? Are there companies out there that will insure it?

Also, do you think $24K for a '00 L is a good price? Mint with 28K miles and a extended 75K warranty. Has the '01 intercooler upgrade as well.

Thanks.

State Farm has no problem insuring my Lightning. It's not on any sort of list or anything. In fact, when I went from an 01 Subaru Forester (good riddance) to my 02 Lightning my rates only went up about $50/yr (~$875).

Like speeder sez: Time to look for a new insurance company.

Yeah Progressive also has no problems covering the Lightning.. It seems they rate it as a regular F-150, probably since its got the same safety ratings & stuff. It is wierd, however, that my insurance premiums went down $35 per month when I traded in the 99 L for my 02

Thanks for the tips guys. I can't believe ALFA could be so far off. I've been with them for 12 years and have never had problems until now. I mean I can see charging me a high rate if they wanted too but to completely deny insuring the Lightning... crazy. I guess they lost a long term customer on this one.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Maybe you should switch to Allstate. I just bought a 02' L and w/ full coverage 50/100/50 low deductibles and towing/rental I pay less than a grand a year.

Sucks to be you. You should evaluate your driving habits.

Being in the industry, I will tell you guys that one person's full coverage is potentially different from another person's full coverage. Liability limits, personal injury protection, deductibles all make a difference. But to the guy that's paying $250/mo I would reevaluate my coverage and needs. Or reevaluate my company. Before I was married and before I turned 21 (my company has a rate-break at 21 and 25) with high liability limits and reasonable deductibles my insurance was still far less than $250/mo. Now that I'm married and >21, I insure both the 2002 L, my 2002 Honda TRX 400EX and the 2002 Civic of my wifes for less than I was paying then.
My $.02

Unhappy

Actually I was in a hurry typing and left out the 6 in front of month. I only pay $750/6 months. Sorry for the typo, had I paid better attention I would have caught it. Excuse me!
