Is this Redline water wetter beneficial?
Just was wondering, I saw where several fellow L owners posted about Water wetter..I had no idea what they were talking about until my buddy told me redline makes it..Is it nothing more than just a brand of coolant? If so, can it be used for the intercooler coolant? Anyone that uses it, how are you satisfied with it? Any downfalls?...Also I was interested in getting a different thermostat..Any suggestions? Would i have to have my chip reburned and what are common problems if any that occur with the thermostats?
thanks!
thanks!
I have never used water wetter in my lightning but have used it in my cobra and have noticed a big difference, runs alot cooler. I have seen some people in here that have used it in there intercoolers but I will let them respond
I've had water wetter in my 01 since last summer. Can't say if it has helped but it hasn't hurt either (temp usually stays right around the middle of the gauge). I have heard that some guys are running it in thier intercooler also. I am going to go with the 170' thermostat. There was a post on here awhile back about the ses light coming on and a low coolant temp code on a guys truck with the 160'. Although others are using it without any probs.
I like it, and have used it in every vehicle I've owned/raced. . .
-BUT-
I wouldn't use it on the Lightning.
Anytime the manufacturer comes out and directly advises not to use a specific product and identifies it BY NAME, then they must know something we don't.
MATT @ SVT can give you more info on the usage of this product if you want specifics.

I've used it for years and it was the first thing I 'did' to my new L. One bottle in the radiator and abiut half & half with water in the i/c.
I have a 160 * 'stat installed with no problems. The needle rests at the top of the 'F' mark in 100* ambient temps.

What do you mean by this? Did Ford/SVT say "no WaterWetter"? Where is that stated?

Had it in my 2000 and now in my 01 1 bottle in I/c and 2 in radiator,as long as you dont go more than 50/50 in cold areas your ok,never had a problem, and it won't cause corrosion so it cant hurt it just makes cooling more efficient.

Water Wetter
Can't say anything about Water Wetter, BUT I do run Purple ICE in my L.
1 and 1/2 bottles in the radiator (temp to 0) and 1/2 bottle in my intercooler (temp about +8).
Keep in mind that you should be flushing the system once or twice a year anyway. Since I live in Texas, I don't have to worry too much about the temp dropping below 8.
If I get concerned, it will be time to fliush the system anyway and reset the temp #'s.
Just my .02 cents

After seeing this post, and becoming curious, I called SVT, and spoke to Matt. He said that SVT does not recommend using Water Wetter, merely because they do not do ANY testing with it. The only reason that they recommend NOT using it is simply that they cannot gaurantee the product due to the lack of information. It is not because they have found issues with the product, they just will not recommend it.
My conclusion is: It isn't bad for the cooling system in our L's. So I might give it a try. It worked wonders in my 2000 GT. So who knows???

Purple Ice
Deboat:
I use 1 and 1/2 of the 16 oz. (one pint and a half total ...24 oz.) in the radiator with antifreeze and distilled water.
Buy yourself a little $3.00 coolant tester and set the temp as close to zero as you can.
Easiest way it to drain about 1 1/2 gallons out of your radiatior (17 or 19MM white **** on lower driver side) add the pint and a half to the radiator overflow box and add one gallon of distilled water.
From here, let the truck run for a little bit 5-8 minutes with heater on high to circulate and mix the Purple Ice and distilled water.
Then check the temp. If you are above zero temp, add antifreez, if you are below zero, add more distilled water.
The intercooler worked best for me when I drained 1 gallon out (pet**** on lower left visable through lower grill). With one gallon out, your white box on the top that holds the coolent will be empty or close to it.
Add the half pint of Purple ice to it and fill it with about 3/4 gallon of distilled water and check the temp...same here, if it is above zero...add dist. water, below zero, add antifreez.
Hope that helps.

I was told by someone (no names will be given) is that all this stuff is only NON FOAMING SOAP mostly. What this does is breaks the surface tension for better cooling. Just passing on some info, I have not tried this myself.
FYI,The Factory Temp gauge is CRAP!Oil pressure as well.Won't tell you anything until after it's too late!
Try using your digital readout in your trip odo.The readout you want is DEGC0089 {89* c}
I have an Autometer Water Temp and the digital readout is pretty close to the Autometer.
I run a 170* T-stat and water wetter and Max temp In heavy traffic with outside temps of 110*+ gets to about 190*
As far as Intercooler Mine runs about The same as the outside temps plus about 10* F.-Hope this helps!!
