Gauge hookup

For those of you who have water temp gauges:Where did you tap into with the sending unit?I've seen some use the thermostat housing.Seems easy enough, but the gauge doesn't work until the t-stat opens.Got to wonder how accurate a reading that would give?I've heard there's a 1/2" allen head plug down near the oil filter some have used.Anybody used this?
I'm also doing a trans temp gauge.I've been told to tap the sending unit into the return line from the trans to the radiator.Any input??
Also doing a Pyrometer [EGT] I know I need to get a bung welded into the exhaust manifold for the probe.Trying to determine which cylinder to tap into.Anybody have any specs on a specific cylinder running hotter than others?
Thanks for all the help!
-Dave.

Go to the other thread, I posted more information for you there.
Also, you want to hook your trans temp gauge up to the out going transmission line.
