Anyone ever get a ticket for this??
I got pulled over and got a ticket for "Sudden Acceleration" this past wekeend. I was not racing anyone (noone was even near me) and I did not spin my tires at all. I had just made a right turn and got up to the speed limit kinda quick. Personally I thought it was a chicken ***** ticket. I am going to fight it.
Thankfully even if the ticket does stand it does not go on my record it is only a fine.

I just got a "imprudent acceleration" ticket Sat night... There was a little tire spin though. I took of slowly then at two goosed it and gave a little chirp... the cop didn't pull me over for 8 miles... he said he couldn't catch up... I wasn't speeding... not sure what it was all about...
I am also going to fight mine... it was 4am Sunday morning after work and no one was on the streets. so what's the point?
Sometimes I wish I could bitch slap those guys... Not my fault you had to work 3rd shift...

Is that the same as the "exhibition of speed" charge they issue here in Virginia? What a BS citation. What's next?... "Excessively rapid movement of foot from brake to accelerator pedal" or "RPMs too high when engaging first gear from a stop?"
Yea, pretty commom. My brother got a "sudden acceleration" for moving to fast from a light, no tire spin, just moved faster than the other cars. Total B.S......
(BTW, fight it, My brother did, he won.)

when the cop shows up
I would ask him what the speed limit was in the area you got pulled over. Them ask him what the state's allowable time to accelerate to this speed from a stop. Then ask him to compare this allowable rate to the documented rate at which your vehicle traveled. See how that grabs him.

Been there, paid that.
Nowadays I would just have my attorney go to court with me and tear the ticket up in front of the officer. Its a bogus, got-nothing-else-to-do-on-graveyard-shift, ticket.

In Florida, it is called exhibition of speed. But I normally don't write that one for just quick acceleration. Heck, I get to the speed limit fast too. I usually write that for smoking the tires, minor racing, etc.
And no, exhibition of speed is not just another name for speeding. Unlawful speed is unlawful speed and exhibition of speed is what this is about.

Anyway I new 2 people that were flying down a highway in the early morning hours. Anyways since they were pretty much the only cars on the road a cop had tailed them for a little while before pulling them over. They got tickets for speeding, reckless driving, and excessive show of speed or what is called.
Any clue what I'm talking about?
Extremely curious here....
How can "exhibition of speed" be clearly defined? It seems so opinion-based in the description that I would find it hard to defend or prosecute in the court.
I know that when I get got speeding 75 in a 65mph zone that the "limit" was 65. I am clearing "Speeding". But, what parameters defines that a person is in violation of ""exhibition of speed" ?

Do fight it, that ticket's so subjective that if you show up and are nice in court, it's very likely it'll get thrown out. How's your driving record, otherwise? If you don't have some Jesse James looking record, dress nice, etc., the judge is likely to call it for the chicken terd ticket that it is.
There is a law on the books like that here in VA, "Improper acceleration." That's different than exhibition of speed, also a ticketable offense. A Fairfax, VA, police officer once informed me that "just about everything's illegal here." Nice of him to warn me so I'd know to go buy a radar detector....

SMJayman, I see you live in Alcatraz *cough* I mean.... Fairfax too. I don't understand how all of the citizens in this backwards commonwealth can stand to be abused like this. I second your recommendation for using "protection."
