99-00 lightning has 360hp & 440tq stock with 3.55 gears.
01-02 lightning has 380hp & 450tq stock with 3.73 gears.

all 99-02 lightnings are supercharged.

hope this helps.

99-02's ther's really no difference.

Most 99-00 have already had the intercooler changed out so that really only leaves the 90mm maf and maybe a 5hp lost in the lower pleum.

Also it seems like Ford left something out in the quality after 00!

I absolutley disagree.

Ive had 99/00/ and just bought a new 02 and the difference on the 01 and up are excellent refinments and are definatly worth buying a "newer" model rather then the 99/00 althoughI will say the 99s had fewer problems than the 00s.......

I guess there's a couple of different ways to look at this.

#1 an 02 is going to set you back about 31.5k, a 99 that's probably already chipped, filtered, and possibly a few other things is going to set you back ~22k.

#2 oh the humanity of the newer wheels what was svt thinking no wonder so may people are changing them out. I will not even mention the mirrors?

#3 01-02 have too many extra holes on the engine blocks

The 99s are bullet proof. Get one, mod, kill the rest. Trust me.

Well I've had my share of transmission problems, but when I changed x chip out for y chip that problem went away, but still not 100% sure that it's fixed.

99-02's are all excellent trucks. The 01 & 02's have 20 more HP, 10 more Ft Lbs stock 3.73 gears & other updates as well. While these are the facts some have trouble accepting them. Any of the Gen 2 L's can be made VERY fast and unless you get stupid, are also dependable.

The difference between a 99 and a say 02 is more like 5 rwhp, if both are chipped and the 99 has a $100 90mm maf.

If you have a >00 and your not chipped then you are NOT really in the equation about worring about hp are you?

Now the gears I'll give you that one, unless you're making close to 400 rwhp then the 3.73 are a disadvantage with a heavy foot like mine. Not to mention the tire expenditure.

Bob,
I had a 99, 01 & now a 02 L, the 01 & 02's are definitely quicker STOCK, some is hp & some is gearing. The rear wheel dyno #'s on stock 01-02 L's are 15-20 hp more than stock 99-00 models. I understand that when you Chip/Pulley/Filter them the difference is less, sheesh. Even if you've got 500 rwp the 3.73's are an advantage in acceleration. BTW, my 02 has been the most touble-free, my 99 needed 2 trannies in the first 24 months & a new long block assembly @ 30K, the 01 had the clunk & a power window adjustment in 15K, the 02 has been trouble-free thus far. If you want to talk about modded trucks, fine I've seen a Gen 1 L in the 9's...

Boy, you swallowed that like a bitter pill

BTW the higher the HP the lower the gearing # for traction reasons. With the perfect engine you really only need a 1 speed transmission gearded for the 1/4 mile. Now I really understand where you're TRYING to come from but also remember that with a 4 spped transmission you could risk of falling out of the power band.

Normally with all the mods people add that just tightens the power rpm range. Also this doesn't take into consideration of the gearing of the transmission it's self which I believe remains stock.

Hey Coolguy, as you can plainly see Bob1999 (newbie) likes to stir chit up...(just look at his other posts tonight)..So you can easily disreguard any of his statements. Buy an 01 or 02 if you have the money....the upgrades are worth it ie. Suspension, Interior, and Exterior.

Bob,
My bad, I thought this was a reasonable discussion. If I'd know it was a 99 L lovefest I wouldn't have disturbed you. I'm done with this.
