my only story involves seeing one down at seaside here in jersey on sunday night. we rolled past eachother in opposite directions and just said whats up basically, it looked sweet, probably the best condition I have seen one in. got plenty of thumbs up from the import guys, who realize they cant compete...and smiles from the ladies who only wish they were riding with me, lol

I've ran a Typhoon

Which is a GMC SUV version of the Syclone, and we pretty much end up at a dead heat. I have an '01 L, bone stock, and he has a '92 Typhoon with an aftermarket air intake and nothing else that I know of. Our 1/8 mile times range from 8.9 to 9.1, and the cool night air makes them both pick up a tenth or so. These times are on stock tires, with as little spin as possible. If the opportunity ever arises I plan on owning one. There is a tuner in Pikeville Ky that makes these things scream. He is to the SyTy community what Sal, Jim, and Johnny (and others I just can't recall right now ) are to the L community.

stock vs stock a sy will leave a l at the lights and assuming both are running right will have it by 2-3 tenths at the end of the qtr. thats why the sy is "still the worlds quickest production truck" I own a sy and have ran many L's on the street and its not even fair if the L is on street tires, I just have too much traction

I don't think so, as far as Stock VS Stock goes. My '02L ran 13.43 STOCK and I'm no professional driver. Others have gotten 13.2 out of a stock '02L. I don't remember times that good off the showroom floor 10 years ago for the hairdryer 6 cylinder GMC.
Turbo's are very easy to add boost so it's going to be impossible to find a stock one now.
Anybody have a link to a magazine road test from 10 years ago?

A White One?

If you saw a white Syclone, you are a very lucky man. From my understanding, there were only a handful of these made, unless it was just repainted. These were only accessible to the public through a contest, of which the Sy was the grand prize.

A lot of L's have also run 13.8 or slower. A L should be quicker from a roll. A Syclone should be noticably quicker off the line especially till 60mph. I personally think a Sy has a slight advantage in the 1/4 mile, and I will leave it at that. Either way it is close.

A lot of Syclone were collected, so their are a lot of low mileage stock Sy out there. I think the mags of the time ran 13.3-4's. 13.3-5 are normal times for Sy running proper and using a boost launch. The truck are 11 years old now, so a lot of them are not in perfect running order anymore.

It's mainly the traction you get with the AWD. But I agree, I would have to see it to belive it!

According to the this website http://www.sytyauthority.net/
The Typhoon back in 92 will do 0-60 in 4.9 and run the quarter in 13.6.

Heres a link to a Car and Driver (I know you all love this publication) that had a road test for the syclone.

http://www.geocities.com/~92_typhoon/CD/GMCSyclone.html

Specs say 1/4 mile at 14.1.

SY's run so fast because of the fact that they are that much lighter in weight.

Most of the serious L racer gut there truck and go allot faster.

They say that about every 100 pounds is .1 seconds in the 1/4. So take a 4700 pound L from the factory with 380 hp and then take a 3500 pound or less SY from the factory with 300 hp and then compare the two and you'll see that the L is an animal with the power to weight ratio its running at. Another thing you guys have to consider is the TRQ that the L has over the SY. I would love to see a STOCK to STOCK race and see a SY out run a L to the 60 foot line. On a properly prepped track and a good driver in both cars I can't see that happening with the SY turbo lag, and lack of TRQ.

These are all speculated weights, I'm not sure what a the SY weight is exactly.

Go to http://www.syty.org/old/ for a good read about Syclone's and Typhoon's.

At Bandimere, elevation 5700 feet, a stock Syclone will do high 13's to low 14's. A stock Lightning will do high 14's.

Actually the syclone is not as light as you think, they are closer to 4000 lbs with driver and fuel. The truck weights 3613 (dry) add fuel minimum 12 gallons and a normal size driver and you are at 4000lbs. the reason they go like hell is they can leave the line under boost, try to leave the line in a lightning under boost, turbos are all about torque the generate huge numbers I have dyno sheets showing 400ft lbs in 80k stock trucks. we have the traction you have the horsepower to chase us down on the big end . from a roll a l will hand a sy its *** from a dead stop stock vs stock the l will be following gmc tailgate
