Unhappy I feel like Ive been in a fight and...

I feel like Ive been in a fight and LOST.
I did my first plug change today and leme tell you it SUCKED!!!!
My nuckles are all scratched and cut and after laying on the front of the truck for 2 hours my ribs feel like someones been punching me. I even got a little blood on my motor...lol
It took about 4 hours and I dont ever want to do it again!!! ...although I know I will.

The first 2 on the passenger side are pretty easy by after that it turns into a bitch. The back 2 on the drivers side are a freaking nightmare!!! Ive been working on cars since I was a kid and this job add to be in the top 3 that I hated the most.

Heres a little tip.

BUY SOME SPARE COIL PACK BOLTS BEFORE YOU START!
{5mm by 20mm,metric thread}
I droped 2 of them and they disappeared into what must be some kind of black hole because they were never seen or heard from again.

I cant begin to tell you how glad I am that this PITA job is over with.

I'm really surprised to hear about your ordeal. I just did my plugs yesterday; and it took me about an hour and 15 minutes total. I sit in front of a computer all day for money. This is the first vehicle I've actually done my own work on. I had no problems at all with the passenger side plugs. I just used a few extenstions and a u-joint. I did get annoyed by the 2nd plug from the firewall on the driver's side. BTW, were any of your plugs fouled? I found that the plug closest to the firewall and the 3rd from the firewall on the driver's side had a lot of buildup and hand oil on the threads. Has anyone else found this?

Ed you must have "The Touch" because I had a hell of a time.

My plugs all looked perfect with a very light tan color on the insulaters. Mine were all good and snug too. Some have reported that theirs have been loose from the factory.

Cool

Andy,

You should have came over Friday night with Jimmy and we could have knocked then both out. We spend more time BSing and drinking beer than changing plugs.

You must not have read my intructions or you would have had a telescopic magnet for those pesky bolts.

I bow to the master of sparkplug changes.

Thanks Chuck I wish I woulda knew...lol

OH believe me I read your instruction...multiple times!
I had a magnet and one of those long wire thingys that reach out and grab things but when they droped I couldnt find them anywhere, even after probeing blindly when the magnet.

I also got a 1/4 inch breaker bar{per your instructions} and it was a huge help geting the coil bolt off the one under the fuel pressure regulator.

Chuck changed mine for me in about 2hrs, with A LOT of beer drinking and BSing during the entire change. A few of mine came out with the fouled look to them also Are you coming to the track Tuesday, Andy?

like gator said, why does everyone on this board refuse to pay someone to do this? i don't make loads of money, but i'm paying someone to wire my system, because just looking at it i knew i couldn't do it without messing it up. and i got my densos last week, and hopefully ill get them installed tomorrow over at a mechanics while i'm at work. i'd prefer it, i knew if i installed my subs and so forth, it was going to be atleast 4 hours (if i was very lucky) because i have no real idea what i'm doing. and installing my plugs, it'd cost me abunch just for the spark plug tool. and, no one says how easy the install is. never! i know my truck would be out of commision if i did it! so, ill spend the (eh, 30 bucks hopefully?) to get my plugs installed tomorrow.

One of the keys to this is a telescoping magnetic pickup tool. Once you get the screws loose remove it with the magnetic too, and put them back with the same tool.
