RYAN:

It's not a common problem. There are hundreds of with chips that have never had this problem. I have a chip from four tuners and two of them use a Superchip for their programming. No problems with not starting, etc.

Btw, I would be very surprised if you actually saw someone changing or removing a chip that didn't disconnect the battery first. That's asking for trouble. I always have my key out of the switch when working with the battery.

THANKS FOR THE INFO

I guess I never really paid any attention to the battery being disconnected or not just never seen them do it. So it is smart when I get a chip to disconnect the battery everytime I put on the chip or remove the chip?? and remove the key thanks for the info I would have never guessed you would have to do that thanks that why I read these posts so I can get the correct info so I don't make the same mistakes some do sorry it is at there expense but I guess better him than me (LOL) ~ I hope to get a chip here in the near future. Thanks for all the good info all info is appreciated!! Don't want anything happening to my truck!!
Do I dare to ask who has the best chip to get?? Better not go there!! Proabably get more than I asked for!!

Let's get this straight

He asked for jello, and....I said NO . But my good nature override my common sense and I gave him , yes, a gallon of grape jello. T H E N the midget pulled out his knife and wanted to start some chit. I said , Hey this is Jersey, we use guns! And with that he took a plane trip back to Colo. BTW....He did mention something about keying a white "L" that was parked on a front lawn

Amen. Funny, you never see postings from these same people praising Ford when their truck gets broken into, but not stolen because of that very same 'cotton-picken, dad-gummed, new-fangled' anti-theft system. Smart theives require smart security systems, which in turn requires a slight increase in the intelligence of the driver. I guess you gotta get with the program (or rather, the instructions) or go buy yourself a '68 Dart. Then you can leave the keys in the thing all night with the windows down and NEVER have to worry about your car getting stolen.

BTW- The 'midget/knife' security systems are banned here in AZ, due to the high number of lawsuits coming from midgets who didn't follow the knife instructions and were cutting themselves. Instead they now use ninjitsu techniques and paralyze potential thieves by kicking the crap out of their shins.

It's one thing to **** and moan if the instructions were unclear, or wrong. But to have clear, correct instructions and still choke because YOU didn't follow them is . . .well. . .your fault, not Fords.

So give yourself a nice kick in the *** and laugh it off, bro.
(in that order- don't skip a step, or you'll fall down.)

Later,

RESTARTED IT AND IT WOULD RUN FINE...THEN RUN ROUGH..THEN THE GUAGES WOULD START BOUNCING AROUND--AND IT WOULD QUIT AGAIN. (YES IT WAS INSTALLED CORRECTLY--THE MYSTERY GOO WAS ALL REMOVED).

ANYWAY--TO TOP THINGS OFF, I DECIDED TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN AND MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE CONTACTS WERE CLEANED. WELL BEING PISSED OFF AS I WAS, I FORGOT TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION WHILE DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY AND REMOVING THE COMPUTER. CHIP LOOKED GOOD, BUT I REMOVED IT ANYWAY TO MAKE SURE THE TRUCK WOULD RUN NORMALLY WITHOUT IT.

NOW THE DAMN THING WONT START BECAUSE OF THE F*CKING ANTI-THEFT B.S.---AND MY POOR TRUCK IS NOW STUCK HERE AT WORK (IN THE FIREHOUSE)--AND I HAVE TO HUNT DOWN ANOTHER KEY AFTER GETTING A RIDE HOME--

IT BETTER START WITH THE OLD KEY OR IM GOING BACK TO CHEVY--THIS IS A LITTLE TOO "ANTI-THEFT"---NEXT THING YOU KNOW, FORD IS GOING TO EQUIP EVERY ONE OF THEIR VEHICLES WITH LITTLE MIDGETS WITH KNIVES--IT WOULD PROBABLY BE LESS OF A HASSLE--ANYWAY WISH ME LUCK

ANYONE WHO CARES--ILL KEEP YOU UPDATE--ANYONE WITH INFO PLEASE LET ME KNOW--THANKS AGAIN

Hey HEVYRESQ:

Try this. Put your dash into diagnostic mode. Instructions are here. DTC Instructions

Look for DTS codes 9600(Damaged or non PATS key)
9601(Incorrect key code)
9602(Partial key code)
9681(PATS processir not working)

You can tell if you're having a problem with PATS(Key security) through these.

I had a problem with my Superchip not making contact. I had to build up the contacts with solder(Superchip will do this for you for a fee). My contact problems went away after I made the contacts thicker. Ocasionally this happens with older chips that have been inserted and taken out alot, but has been know to happen to a few new ones. It also depends on how much material you took off when you cleaned the contacts.

Maybe we can meet a RT.66 one night and I could help you out.

Jason
