Question What'll 160-deg thermostat & electric fan do 4 me?

My mods are as listed in my sig (NO EXTRA BOOST).........If I were to add these two things, would it be worth it..........I know they are relatively cheap, so I was wondering if they are beneficial to the truck in the short or long run, and if it's really worth it? Will it do anything for my performance, or are they more of a proactive mod in case of future added boost??

Thanks again guys
JC

the electric fans are good for some HP and while your at it do the cobra R water pump and the stat at the same time. You should pick up 10 HP and the motor should rev up a little faster without having the clutch fan on there. Its nice to have for the track too cause then you can turn it on and cool off your motor faster.

Is Cobra R Water pump hard to find?? How much does one of those run........So you're saying with these 3 mods (water pump, 160-stat, electric fan) I could/should see about 10hp or so at the wheels?? Dyno-proven??

See, I want to do as many mods as I possibly can, that are actually worth it, without adding any extra boost..............I'm too scared to do so (at least right now). So since I'll probably be doing an exhaust next, I'm trying to see what other mods I could add to it, which may be worth some ponies...Like that, I'll get the most I can out of the truck, where maybe all I would need would be a 2#'er for some 12.99999999's

The water pump is not hard to find at all just grab one from your local Ford dealer. Do a search.......I have given the part number for it on here before, if not I will post it when I get home.

Expect to pay between 75-100 for it.

If your just looking for 12.9's then I would do some 4.10 gears, electric fan and water pump and stat, accufab throttle body (that stock one you have ported is useless, those gain 8 to 10 hp), a nice air intake setup (the stock box ok, but you'll get more), and some traction bars, and possible a converter if you want to run slicks.

That with a proper tune should net you some 12.9's with no problem I would hope.

Long tube headers might not do anything for you at this stage, maybe 5 to 10 HP and for money I don't think its worth it to you now.

No flame intended but why do you say that?

YR3Z-8501-AB is the part #, most dealers will have to order it, wouldn't pay more that $75 for it if possible.

I just installed a electric fan and pump (already had the 160* themostat). Ran last night at Moroso 82* and 77% humidity!

60 ft 1.90
1/4 13.01
Mph 105.58

60 ft 1.91
1/4 13.03
Mph 105.72

60 ft 1.97
1/4 13.06
Mph 105.98

Best pass ever before the fan / pump in better conditions,

60 ft 1.92
1/4 13.12
Mph 105.26

As you can see there was a power increase but I would say it is probably closer to 10 - 12 vs the 20hp for the fan and 4hp water pump as advertised.

YUP.............I was wondering the same thing...........

The ported T/B and upper plenum were dyno tested on a chipped truck, and were good for about 10 hp..........and slightly higher torque gains......................Not my truck on the dyno, but similar. Why do u think it is "useless"? No flame here either, just wanted feedback on your opinion.

thx,
JC

12.9's

12.9's should be easily accomplished with a chip, filter, linemod/valvebody, and 2lb pulley on stock f1's. Anything else is a bonus. I've seen this done on 2000's plenty of times, it's all over the boards. If you have a 2001 with the extra hp and gearing....should be a breeze!
