Unhappy A.R.E. lid damage......

The damage seems to be getting worse. Seems to shift everytime I adjust it so it won't rub with the paint. Any tips?

WOW! My damage was only about 2-3 inches long. I found that when the rubber seal along the inside portion of the lid gets wet it pushes up and leaves the liner to rub on the truck.

Do you have a liner in the lid?

I have turned my rubber stoppers all of the way out and haven't had any rubbing since (about 8 days).

What you guys need to do is lubricate the inner rubber seal with armor-all or equivalent. Push the lid all the wat down and look to see if the edges of the lid touch the paint. The edge of the lid should be adjusted from the dealer, however the snubbers can move down over time which is why the yellow and red caution tags are sold with the covers. Those tags advise the customer that adjustments must be made periodically. If the rubber snubbers are too short return to the nearest A.R.E. dealer who will provide snubbers which are longer in length. Good Luck.

I never got any yellow or red warning tags with my lid nor did I get any type of warranty papers or "care" guidelines....

blowntruck,

Someone on another BB posted a unique solution for a similar problem they were having with a bug shield rubbing. This person used the soft side of velcro and attached it to the points that were making contact with their hood. The velcro matierial, being soft also worked like a lubricant between the two surfaces, and prevented any damage to their paint. May be worth a try, good luck!

My lid was purchased at the same time I bought the truck and I didn't get any of those tag warnings either...

ouch!

man that makes me cringe to see something like that happen. You guys made me run out and check all around my cover now. I havent had any rubbing occur yet but i have only had it a month or so. Im definitly going to keep my eye on it..they should tell you all this when you buy the thing.. no one said crap to me about it thats for sure. Im thinking the stoppers should be the only thing that could allow that to happen...unless you slam the hell out of it when you close it i guess.

Thats nothing compared to what it did to mine!!!

I had a rut in my bed that started at the half way point of my bed and went all the way around to the other half way point. In some areas it went 3/8's of an inch deep in the bed. My snubbers weren't long enough and where not set right from the factory and I never noticed it until it was to late and I tried to fight with my local shop about it and they wouldn't do a damn thing. So it ended up costing me well over 500 bucks to get fixed, and now I had the body shop make sure it would never touch again with some custom made snubbers and refitting latches.

I'll never buy a cover from that plave again, thats for sure.

They weren't set from the factory because the factory doesn't set the snubbers.

All LSII covers come with the warning labels attached to the middle snubbers. The only way to remove the warning labels is to remove the middle snubbers then remove the labels.

By factory I meant the place that I got it from and installed it. I just used the wrong word, HEHEHEHE

I don't remember seeing a tag on mine either.
