Thumbs up Tranny Fluid Change

About to put in a line mod valve and pan. Going to change to Red Line D4 while I'm at it. How much fluid should I buy for a pan and TQ converter drain?

Please don't start a war over this like my last post. Thanks

Depending on which pan, as much as 8 quarts. For the B&M pan, I used close to that. For the 4x4 deep sump Ford pan, probably a little less, but buying 8 wouldn't hurtcha.

Let me know if you need anymore tips, I just swapped out my valve body and did the pan drop, etc., a few weeks ago.

converter also?

i just did factory techs valve body kit and a 4x4 pan = 7.5 qrts

But if your doing the torque converter and a 4x4 pan the owners manual says 16.9 qrts or 17qrts ,so you better buy mor mercon if your draining converter also. check your owners manual under fluid capacities its in there =4x2 and 4x4.

I put the F/T valve body and 4X4 deep pan, and drained the torque convertor last weekend. It took 13 qts Amsoil tranny fluid to fill

Flying Texan:

I changed to Redline's D4 synthetic too. Don't do what you said you were going to do! By that I mean, don't mix the D4 with the rest of the Mercon that is still in the trans. I had a 'quick-lube' shop pump the Mercon out as they pumped the D4 in.

With changing the pan, I would think you would want to make the changover to the D4(pump method) and then drop the pan. Of course, you will use more fluid in refilling what drained out with the pan off. Or, change the pan and add Mercon, then do the pump method with the D4. This would take less of the more expensive D4.

Without changing the pan, mine took 15 qts of D4. Now, I may be wrong about not mixing the two but I'd rather have all of one or the other. Btw, my trans is working just fine with the D4 and I feel better knowing it has the synthetic. Time will tell if it was a good idea.
