Clay Bar on True Blue & Chevy SSR

Does anybody have any suggestions whether I should (can) use the clay bar on my 2002. We are having cool weather here and I want to spend sometime cleaning, waxing, and detailing my truck this weekend.

Should I worry about using the clay bar yet, since I have only had the truck since February? Would it be just as well to wash and wax and worry about the bar next year when the truck has more crap on the finish?

Also, I was curious about the Cehvrolet SSR, as I kind of like the looks, but from what I read at www.ssrrs.com, it looks like we will have a hard time even seeing one next year. They are only building 2500 of the 2003 models and the dealers that get them will only get 1. So, the price is going to be along the lines of a Z06!

I'll take the Vette instead (but not before my Lightning).

Have a good weekend everyone!

Sarge

Unless you are in a nasty environment for paint (lots of acid rain or other contaminents) you shouldn't need to clay bar the vehicle. Simply use a good wax, and reapply regularly (I do mine monthly...)

Unless you've had some serious bug trouble and have bugs you can't wash out, I wouldn't clay bar your truck yet... It was a year before I clay-bar'd mine...

Just wash and zaino..

I would clay it. Almost all vehicles have rail rust; tiny little rust specs that get on the finish during transportation. Clay bars get them off.

I would clay bar it now, before the clearcoat has fully cured out. The rail dust and other bits are imbedded into it right now. You will not be sorry you did it and if you just wash the truck well, the bar process does not take that long!

Oh Sure! You guys just want to make me work!

I had not thought of the rail dust and I figure it can't hurt, so I'm going to.

wolff: LOVE THE HOOD! I was leaning towards getting it before, but now I really am going to get it.

Go for it Sarge. It really isn't that difficult or time-consuming.

I had never used a clay bar before and thought it was a lot of work. Believe me, it is really very easy. After the claybar and the Zaino, the paint surface was as smooth as the paint on the new 944 Porsche I once owned.

Zaino Z-18 ClayBar was designed to remove airborne contaminants, paint overspray, water spots, rail dust, industrial fallout, diesel fuel & catalytic converter residue and any other bonded surface contaminants from paint. All cars even brand new factory paint has airborne contaminants... Here's the deal. The non-abrasive Z-18 ClayBar will remove any surface contaminants from the paint finish and not hurt the clear-coat. The ClayBar will get that paint finish smooth as glass. Now remember waterspots, bird droppings and bug guts if left on the paint finish for any length of time. Will etch into the paint finish. The ClayBar will also remove any store bought waxes....
