Hey All:

I was looking into the boost actuator as a possible culprit for my ridiculously slow-*** truck, and I happened to notice something in this pic.



In the middle of this photograph, about 1/4 of the way up from the bottom there is a blurry bolt head. This bolt is attached to a bracket which goes up to the upper right hand corner of the page and attaches to a tube which goes into the blower or something.

I have no such bolt, bracket or tube on my truck. I have a threaded hole, and abrasions where it looks as though something may have been attached at one time, but nothing at all is currently there.

Its probably nothing, something they changed for 2002, but I am grasping at straws right now.

Dude, dont waste your time trying to adjust that thing. It took me 2 hours to get it right after trying to get something that wasnt there out of it. Its a bogus thing unless your truck was REALLY setup wrong from the factory which is highly unlikely....

 

What kind of boost are you getting now? Have you had your engine diagnosed? Could be something simple, vacuum leak, bad
smog crap, bad coils, etc.

I'm taking it in tomorrow, hopefully they can find something.

I reset the PCM and now it *seems* a little better, but only track time will tell, I suppose. The boost gauge goes all the way to 10 now, whereas it only went to '8' before.

I haven't adjusted the boost actuator thingie, and I probably won't. I have a copy of the Ford service DVD at home and it says there isn't any power to be gained that way (and I am suuuuuure they would never lie about that, LOL)

Anybody know what that hose is?

There is really no gain in power by adjusting the boost actuator. What this adjustment is good for is tailoring where your boost comes on. By adjusting the boost actuator you can make the boost come on earlier or later depending on your driving style. I have mine set so at 70 MPH on the interstate all I have to do is just blip the throttle to be in boost. No more power but makes passing really fun

So what are you ging to tell the dealer? "My truck doesn't ET as well as I would like at the track" LOL

I agree that something must me out of whack, but I'm just not sure what the dealer is going to do for you. I would wait and try again on a cooler day. Racing the Mustang, my ET would vary quite a bit day to day based on the weather and barometer.

LOL. I am fortunate enough to have an ace in the hole when it comes to this sort of thing.

Seriously, I think you are probably right. I am going to take the truck back this saturday night and get it cooled down better and see what happens. Maybe I'll reset the PCM when I get there this time too.

was used on the 99-00 models to hold the brake booster vacuum hose on the upper intake manifold.
It was replaced with a plastic clip on the firewall on your 2002.

That bolt is used to attatch the brake booster hard line support bracket. On the 99-01 trucks, that hose has a metal section in it, with the support bracket coming off. For 2002, they replaced that with a full rubber hose inside convoluted tubing, and attached it to the plastic wiper cowl with a snap in clip.
