K&n

K&N,
I've heard that in order to install a K&N filter, you need to have a chip... is this true?
I'm thinking about going with a K&N filter and new exhaust.
Thanks.

I never heard that tho ' you might be right. I had a breather cap and KN panel and DIDN'T have a chip. I have stranger things happening now that I have a chip.

You should be ok without a chip with an exhaust and filter. The valve cover breather does require a chip however as the motor will run leaner.

With just the K&N and exhaust, I wouldn't do a chip just for them. If you should order a chip in the future, make sure the tuner knows what you have added.

K&N

Guapo, I have an 01" Lightning with just a K&N panel filter, in stock trim and F1's at full pressure I ran a 13.525 at 100 and change, no chip needed
