Gas Mileage
Gas Mileage
I know this question is out of place here...
But are there any "mods" that can be done to improve gas mileage. My "L" is a daily driver and I go through about $25 a week on gas. I know that's not alot for some people, but I'm used to about half that. So... anything I can do?

Most people say there is an increase in gas mileage after replacing the stock fan with and electric one.
Some tuners can burn you a chip for fuel economy as well. One side for street economy one side for race or whatever.

FINALLY
Somebody asked this question.I have been tracking mileage from day one.I only fill the tank, and I track every mile.So far after 9113 miles I have had 52 fillups at the tanks with an overall average of 11.8.
I will break it down even further.Stock-from 7/23/01 to 2/22/02 =35 fillups with average being-12.72mpg.
JDM enhanced
4#,chip.air,exh,etc-17 fillups from 2/23/02 to 5/5/02 with average being-11.3mpg.
This does include track time, dyno runs and everyday driving. There is more track time and dyno time on theJDM #s obviously.
I obviously need another hobby.

I get 18.5 mpg in my 5.4L (70% highway)
There is a simple mod you can do to get this mileage in a Lightning.
Cut a piece of 2x4 about 5 inches long and glue it up under the gas pedal.

Our gas prices here in South Fla are roughly between $1.62 and $1.72 for 93 oct. right now. Last month, alternating between the T-bird (70% of the time) and the L (30%), I used $213 in gas for the month. Keep in mind the T-bird uses regular (roughly $1.50) and gets 20-22 mpg.
If I were to have used the L the whole time, that figure would have doubled...........I drive around 1800 miles a month. Thank God for economical vehicles. Anyone who bought this truck as a daily driver, that drives more than a tankful weekly, really needs to consider another vehicle. Doesn't have to be a new one. Get a old crappy one like me. I paid $1100 for it about 3 months ago. Used cars are sometimes excellent for certain things. I bet I've already made back at least that, or more, in comparison to the additional depreciation, gas usage, and tire usage in 3 months. I could throw it away, and break even. But, I bet I could still sell it for the same price. Used cars are a definite consideration when owning an L. Some of you other guys that can afford other new cars, I envy you.
$25 a week is excellent. I'm assuming you drive around 180-200 miles per week.........Be glad Guapo, this Lightning thing is an expensive toy, no doubt about it. The night after I got my Factory Tech Valve Body and my porting done, I went through about $25 in one night!!!! I was grinning so much, I looked like the JOKER! Needless to say, she hasn't seen much road action since.

The rest of you guys either don't drive much or your gas prices are real low.

What Jason said.
Also: be sure your F1s are checked 'cold'(I wait overnight) for 32 psi, your front end is alighned correctly, your air filter(K&N 'type') is clean, your plugs are properly gapped(with no misfires), your front wheel bearings are properly greased(and adjusted), remove 'unnecessary'(hitch, spare, jack) weight, press the gas pedal down as though there were an egg underneath it(and you didn't want to make a mess
), get a tonneau cover, if you must use the a/c--use it instead of driving with the windows down---and last but not least..............draft behind an 18-wheeler whenever possible
