Chevy Freakin' Rules!
Now that I have your attention......
Today I got the reverse effect of people not knowing what a Lightning is; or, what it is capable of. I was being emissions tested for an inspection sticker, and one of the techs wanted to talk to me about the L. It turns out he's a Dodge guy and takes his '78 pickup to the local 1/8 mile track regularly. He gave the Lightning much more respect than it rates.
He is running high 6s and low 7s on a very built 340 and was convinced that I could take him in a head to head race at the track. I'm sure that, with a little practice and some drag radials, I could run high 7s, at best, with my current setup. There's no way I could take him though. Not without spending a good deal more money.
I told him as much; but, he wouldn't believe it. He doesn't know everything that I've done to the truck and thinks it's still pretty much stock...... Even so, he's very respectful of it.
It seems that the Lightning is becoming something of an urban legend.

The guy was 100% sure I could run a high 6.xx the way it sits. I couldn't convince him otherwise. His vehicle is not a street vehicle. It's race only and is trailered. I don't think I could take him even in the 1/4. It depends on his gearing I guess.
