Gas Cap Installation

Ok, I received my Ford Locking Gas Cap today, but no instructions came with it on how to remove the old cap with the retaining wire, and install the new cap with its own retaining wire. How do I go about doing this?

I've had my locking cap for three months wondering the same thing!

I remember it being straight forward. I think all you do is slide the little cover up from where it is connected to the truck and then the connector comes right out. Then the new cap's wire is put in the hole left behind. Then you just use the gas cap normally except you have to use the key to take it off. If my directions are too vague and no one responds before I get off work, then I will go to the truck for detailed instructions.

BTW, it helps to be drinking before trying. It takes way the nervousness of screwing things up . BTW, you should not need any tools.

pull the rubber "plug" out of the hole that the lanyard goes into on the truck, then you'll be able to pull the old cap off..

then pull or cut the lanyard off the new cas cap, and put it on.
i pulled mine off, because theres no reason whatsoever to leave your gascap hanging there rubbing your paint when you fill up with gas..

Clonetek that is actually a good idea about cutting it off. It is kind of a pain to take the cap off with a key and then having to pull the key out with the cap still being attached to the bed.

I have one, but installed it, and it just didn't fit flush and I didn't like it... pulled it off, put it back in it's box... Sitting in my closet... Let me tell you, those stupid little rubber nubs that hold the sock cover out awat from the body are hard to get back in...

Maybe I will try again someday at mounting... Kind of disappointed in it over all though.....................

Look out for sig below... this is my first shot at having one...
