Buying wrong pulley mistake?
Buying wrong pulley mistake?
I just found this site. I ordered a Downs Ford Pully. It's an upper pully and only gives two pounds of boost. Wondering if I should send it back before I open it and get a lower pulley???
BTW, Where do you get the four pound pulley and higher? Does it really break rods if you go over two pounds? How many pounds can a stock supercharger push on a 99 Lightning before it cavatates?

Here's an afterthought. What if I put on the smaller upper pully and then put on a larger 2 lb-4lb under pulley? Could I use the stock belt? How much are belts going for now days anyway?

There's a lot to read on this site about pulleys.
My personal preference is toward using a lower pulley.
The size of the pulley is dependent on how long you think your motor will last. There have been some who have thrown rods with a 2# lower and others who daily-drive L's with 6#r's with no problems. I personally am not going over 4# without an engine internals upgrade.

I like the lower pulley because its easier for a do it yourself person to install, I have a 6# and a 3# and it only takes me about 20 minutes to switch them. Don't forget you will need a chip and a good program to run a big pulley. This is the most important thing in my opinion to keep from tearing up your motor.
My personal preference is going to be to go with a 4# lower and 1.5# upper. I'm going to use mine for a daily driver btw. Do any of you guys think I'll have a problem with that? I'm also planning to put in a chip and mostly everything else from JDM's 3 stages. Except for the windshield banner.
I don't want anybody to know what I got runnin in that monster.

If your going with the JDM stage programs......I would call them and tell them what your looking for so they can set you up. You will save by grabbing everything at once, rather than piece mealing it especially if your financed by a credit card. The tunning of the chip is the most crucial place to start with mods......after all, the computer is the brain of the vehicle.......you just drive it!!!
IMHO, what Fast Gator said.............a belt should come with the tuner's lower pulley.
I drive daily and 1/4 mile with a 5lber but I rarely go to WOT on the street. My L has 26,800 miles on it.
