oil pick up tube

Is the oil pick up tube different on 5.4 engines? I need a shorter oil pick up to make a new oil pan fit. Is the 4x4 pan different than the 2x4? Is the 4.6 mustang interchangeable with the 5.4? I really don't want to have to take my pick up to a machine shop.

I ran in to the same problem with mine. I do not know where the larger pickup goes to but I ordered a new one from www.partsonline.com and they sent me the longer one. I went to my local dealer with the part # from the old one. They told me that the one they gave me was for all the 5.4Ls. If you need the part # for the correct one I can get it for you.

I would appreciate the part #. Is it from a 4.6 or the cobra R? The reason I think it would be one of those is that the oil pans are probably not as deep as the stock lightning pan, therefore require a shorter pickup tube. I really don't want to order a whole lot of special order stuff and not be able to return it.
