Question Slicks or Streets, and what 60' time????

I'm thinking about getting some stickier tires for the track and some cheap rims to go along.

1. What difference in 60' times can be expected between Drag Radials and Slicks (roughly)?

2. What good/cheap rims can we get for the Lightning and what size?

3. I've heard steel rims from an Expedition or an F150. Is this possible and a good route to take?

4. What Slicks or Drag Radials work well, prices, and sizes?

Thanks for the help!

I'll try to help on some of those questions.

1. ????

2. I think some guys were/are using the spare wheel for a drag wheel.

3. ???

4. I use the 16" M/T ET Streets on 16" ARE Baja wheels. When Rusty(he had Nitto d/rs) and I would line up, sometimes he would win and sometimes I would. The Nittos were safer on the street though, especially if it rained. Rusty now has Hoosier slicks and they will be my next 1/4 mile tire.

1- I would say that depends on your mods. You can have great traction until you really get into the mods. But normally I would say .2-.3 on a lightly modded truck. More on a heavy modded truck

2- American Racing or Ultra makes a ton of wheels in 16x8 or 16x10 for decent prices

3- Steal is heavy and the width is like 7.5 on those

4- Hoosier 28x10x16 slicks or the eqiv in the DOT once it comes out seems to be the best choice, Mickey Thompson ET streets in 26x11.5x16 were it until these came out.

We have a poorly maintained 1/8 miler nearby. Street tires could only get 2.4-2.8 60's. Hoosier 18x10x16 Drag Slicks , dropped me to 1.99-2.00 consistent. (Bone stock)

you can get american racing wheels for around 130 ish and hoosiers for around 165 ish i believe is what i paid for em. i got mine from Johnny Lightning he can get em for you. i just cant remember exactly what i paid for em though i believe it is somewhere close to what i said. i had nitto dr's but they just were not consistent for me. (as dan said). then i went from a 3lb pulley to a 6 and traction went from a best of 1.84 to a 1.99 on the last time i ran them. so i called jl and got the hoosiers and now have gone to a 1.79 60 ft. (that is very respectable for the slick track me and dan race on). i have never tried the m/t et streets but i HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE HOOSIERS!
