I got my Lightning when i was 16 years old(am now 18) and i consider myself very lucky. My parents thought i deserved or i wouldn't have gotten it. Dont worry about my ligthning, it is treated with great respect. Actually i have to go say "good night "after i finsh typing this post.
Now i will admit there are kids out there that are snobby, dont care about money, in which case i just feel sorry for them because their parents have done a terrible job and raising them and they are the ones to blame i think.
I also think some of the older people should actually pay attention to some of the young ones with nice cars when they are talking to them and not just blow them off like it has happen to me many of times. I just get put into the spoiled rich snobby kid automtically which really pisses me off, so my recommendation to you guys is, get to know the kid before you blow them off.

Do not put every teenager into the same category!

Yes, I am going to recieve a lot of help from my parents(great grandparents actually, since I lived with them since i was a few months old, thank god they are still alive and very healthy), we actually already planned everything out, I will pay half of the truck payments and half of insurance, which will be in my grandma;s name(a lot cheaper!!! ). I'm not sure if I am able to get a brand new one yet, depends on if I can get a PIN # for the X-Plan(anybody wanna help ), I only have about 4 more months before I figure it out, brand new or 01'?

Honestly I don't think anyone that just gets their drivers liscence should have have a fast/powerfull car, hell I don't heven think they should get a nice car. First time drivers should get broken down rusty contraptions with wheels, so that they learn to take care of cars and respect them, so they learn whats it like to become friends with mechanics so they don't get taken by the sleazy ones later in life, so they learn that you don't always get what you want in life, etc.... 99% percent of first time drivers have no clue how to drive and combined with the teenager attitude it makes for a bad combo.

With that said, all you *yungins* congradulations for getting an L at an early age, and most importantly congradulations on being in that 1% that has a clue and deserves what they got!

I have to agree that there are tons of snobby silver-spoon children who have BMW M3s and treat them like s*it, especially where i live, but its completely unjust of you to classify all teenagers that way. I've been working at a marina for the past 2 years just so that I could live my dream of owning a lightning. Almost have $35,000 from putting every hour of my free time into WORK. So the next time you "elders" decide to discriminate against the younger generation, please have the wisdom to not insult those of us who don't take things for granted. And as for driving; I agree that many teenagers are irresponsible and foolish, but it is unfair to stereotype the entire group. I am a cautious driver. Whether you choose to believe that or not is your bussiness, but I kindly ask of you not to come down so harshly on younger people who have Lightnings. Sorry to flame or cause any conflicts

OK,, ,time to get this thread closed I'm 22 and worked hard, blah blah the works,, but here's what i have to say to all those who are hard on the younger lucky people who have parents get them an L.

Everyone told you to wait to have sex till you are married so that way it would be more "special" and you didn't listen, now i ask,, are you happy or sad because of it

I really dont mean to hurt anyone's feelings with taht, just a different sort of analogy here, i dont like hearing everyone here being so hard on these guys, sure they're all young, but hey, i was significantly more stupid when i was 16, but if i had a chance to get an L, i'd sure as heck get it and treat it like my baby. Other people are different out there, but lets all have fun here. Face it, even if you have to sell the L in a year due to financial troubles, you'll never erase the grin on your face when you see one on the road and tell everyone how you used to drive one.

~Toast

Again, dont mean to offend anyone here, maybe a different way of thinking though, i'm all for having a good time while you can, maybe when i'm old and married i wont be able to afford a nice truck like this, we all have to do what we can to have fun while we still can.

Captain, you bring back very fond memories for me! I remember my first vehicle ever, was a 89 beater Chebby Van that was handed down to me from my dad. It was messed up, and got 6 mpg, and sunk almost $3k into repairs. My dad just gave it to me, because it was such a lemon, that he didn't want to hold onto it anymore. That POS finally caught on fire and went up in flames while I was idling at an interseciton. I'm just sitting there, and all of a sudden, flames start shooting out of the hood.

I was 16, and I took what I got since my parents arn't rich. We used to be a diehard GM buyers, until that van, which was a total lemon. From that day forth, i've had nothing but Ford blue running in my veins. Now if I can somehow manage to convert my ricer friends..........

junehhan - yep memories

VinniePSVT - you worked for yours, puts you in a different catagory, not the silver-spoon children catagory as you put it. People who work for what they want have more of an appreciation for it, I do apoligize I should have cleared that up in my original post.
And as for driving; I agree that many teenagers are irresponsible and foolish, but it is unfair to stereotype the entire group.
Yes you can, young drivers are inexperienced. Teenagers have attitude. Both are known facts. Of course there exceptions, but the exceptions don't outway the group that fits into the stereotype. And stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason. If had the L when I first got my licsence, not matter how much I would have babied it and taken care of it, I know I would not be here today.

No flame to anyone, I am just an opinionated person and have no problem voicing it. By the way, I am also in the yungins crowd, 24 here.

I am 19, and I saved for my Lightning for 4 years. I put down 10g's, and pay 350 a month. I am thankful to live with my parents, cause i get the garage! I would never move out until i could get a house or conda with my own garage! No silver spoon in my mouth

I am so dissappointed in myself for wasting 15 minutes of my lunch time reading this thread.

Steve/Doug you gotta put a tourniquet on this one.

Well, I got my L when I was eighteen, as my dad needed a new winter car (porsche speedster in the summer) that could seat more than three people. I begged and pleaded, gave him a down payment, and it was all mine! Seriously though,I like to think that I can handle the power. My first car was a 96 T-bird, and then I had a 93 Infinity Q45 - neither of which are lacking in power. For me, the biggest difference with the truck was not the ability to spin the wheels, it was the ability to do so at half insteasd of full throttle. I'm twenty now, and I love my truck. I'm glad that i got it when I did, and for what its worth, I don't race on the street (unless its a twenty + sticker ricer ) . I worked that out of my system with the T-bird. I guess what I'm saying is that the age at which you get it doesn't matter - whats important is you relative maturity and safety levels.
