Dyno Results 01
Dyno Results 01
I just got back from running my 01 on the DynoJet Dyno at EIP Tuning in Westminster Md. 68F
Stock
333 HP 417 Torque
JL Diablo Chip & K&N Replacement
353HP 447 Torque
JL Diablo Chip & K&N Replacement with Air Box Lid unlatched/raised
360hp 453 Torque
369hp corrected (whatever that tells you)
I now will get an airbox replacement.
Also I am wondering about the Max HP#'s that were at 4600 rpm.
The max HP #'s were a spike at 4500-4600 in all pulls. Is this normal?
Any opinions on what is the best air box replacement (I am concerned about getting wamr underhood air) and also how much HP I might expect with a 4lb pulley with the air box also.

See my sig. for dyno numbers with a 5 lber--done in Feb., temp. was high 50s. Sorry, I never dynoed mine stock.
Get Sal's(PSP) Fast Air kit as it helps keep the hot air from the filter.

i did a dyno last week on a dynojet and don't really know if these numbers are normal...without the JDM chip and just Air raid filter I did 335 RWHP and 414lbs of torgue. With JDMs chip it only went up to 345 RWHP and 418lbs of torque...Keep in mind, this is a 99 with 50K miles..Does this sound right???

If you would have done them in 3rd (1 to 1 ratio gear) you would have had the most accurate hp/tq readings and #'s.
There is a VERY simple way to get your tq converter to lock up when dynoing people. Put it in D, turn off OD, build up speed throughout 1st, then 2nd, slowing going up. You'll feel the tq converter lock up as you cruise the rpms/mph up higher. At 70mph just punch it (give or take a couple of mph) and your truck will not downshift. You should now have a smooth clean graph w/ no tq converter spikes.
BTW, you may can get yours to stay in D (3rd) from about 66 up. If you're able you'll get higher tq #'s everytime from starting your rpms lower. We make more tq around 3k versus 3500. You'll get about 5 to 10 more on the dyno readings if you can do this.

Lockup on teh convertor.
BFB, lockup will play its part nearly every pull, ive only not got that 'hump' on one pass. What i am trying to say it doesn't matter what gear its in, or how you approach the dyno run. what i've done in the past was to start gassing it in 2nd, and soon as it shifts to third start sampling. provides a nice graph. mine will always downshift at 70ish with teh chip.

Case in point: It does matter how you approach it. Try it you'll not only feel it when it locks, approaching it how I explained, but you'll notice it's smooth all the way through 3rd now when going full throttle on the dyno.
(btw, if your dyno operator refuses to let you drive your own vehicle [shame on him 1st of all] explain to him what I've mentioned above).

From the factory I had to take it to 65 before it would downshift into 2nd. W/ my '99 it was about 70. Although, from the factory my '01 would downshift into 1st at a higher mph than my '99 would, which was a lil strange.
Here, here's some dynographs of my friend's stock '99 spiking versus my '01 back when it was stock:

K, look at the red line. This is Dynorun.011 w/ a CJ (Johnson Motorsports) chip. Notice the Max POWER reads 355.31 because of the spike? Yet I found his true peak Max POWER of 335.83 by playing w/ the cursor point.

Same instance again: Dynorun.001 pre-chip bone stock shows 339.50, when in reality his peak hp is 323.10.

Here's a good comparison of my '01 truck stock versus his '99 w/ a chip.

And to show you that '01s do make more power than '99s from the factory

Here's a pic of what his curve would be most likely to look like if the spike wasn't there (notice the line drawn):

That's all for now, but I'll write more back in a bit.
