Logrithmic Returns (Bang for the Buck!)

OK ... So here goes ...

My Stock '02 ran 13.51 with just a K&N And Airbox mod.
The pamphlet that comes with the truck says 13.9 or so.
We all seem to want to do the best for our rides, so what I am looking for is a list of mods in order of most bang for the buck
and also prerequisites.

As Sal can prolly attest to, to move from 11.2 to the 10 range
is gonna be a LOT more money than me moving to the 12's
(Hence the logarithm ... more bucks ... less movement.

So how about starting to discuss what steps each of
is doing and what the associated cost (approximately)
and time is?

I'll start ....

1. K&N Flat replacement filter $45.00 10 Minutes
2. Stock Airbox bottom cutout $ 5.00 10 Minutes

My proposed next steps....:

3. Performance Chip $300-500? 1 hour?

4. Exhaust Improvements $1000?
a. Cat-Back ??? (What the heck IS this anyhow?)
b. Bassani staight pipes ???
c. Nice chrome exhaust tips

5. Better Traction $1000-2000
a. Slicks?
b. Traction assists
c. Suspension upgrade

6. Fine Tune Powerplant
a. Throttle body
b. Ram air
c. Nitrous

And on a seperate channel ... the esthetic mods:

1. Car alarm remote start $800.00 0 hours
(installed!)
2. Remove dealer badges $ 5.00 1 hour
3. Zaino polish $ 45.00 6 hours
4. Sound System
a. New front speakers (Polk) $ 280.00 2 hours?
b. Amp (keeping head) $400.00 3 hours?
c. Woofer(s) $200.00 5 hours?
5. painted / silver badge mod $ 50.00 2 hours?
6. painted plastic $ 200.00 3 hours?

What got me thinking about this was the Firebird
"priceless" video ... and how exactly we can track what
we are speeding on this dollar sucking lead sled .... <grin>

Have fun... Drive safely...

SVT_KY,
I agree with Odin, I would get a 2# or maybe 4# pulley to go with the chip before doing any exhaust mods. They won't help as much as the pulley will..my .02.......JR

SVT_KY,
Here are my list of mods, and the aprox. cost and my thoughts on each.
1)Performance chip-$400 definitely the biggest bang for the buck. A properly tuned chip can make your truck feel like superman. I highly recommend trying JDM, tried PSP at first and without getting into it here it didn't work out well after several reburns. JDM hit the nail on the head right off the bat.
2)90mm maf and 12" air filter-$300. Gives you a little extra boost and you gotta love the blower whine.
3)Transmission line mod valve-$95 highly recommend, gives you nice firm shifts and is better for your trans.
4)Electric fan and 2lb lower pulley-$500 both good mods, picked up .5 at the track, electric fan lets your motor rev up much easier.
5)JDM silver bullet catback exhaust -$500 consists of x-pipe and magnaflow mufflers, no performance gain here just makes the Lightning sound just plain awesome.

Gotta do Clay City some Friday soon... I would like to

SVT_KY,
Friday nights at Clay City are difficult for me, but I am planning on going to the Car Wars next Sunday (May 5). It is a street car only event at Clay City. I usually see a few L's there at these events.
My truck is the same color as yours and Crazyone's. I have a Red 99 with chrome Ford Motorsport wheels. I'd love to meet you guy's sometime you have a weekend get together and check out your rides.
