I have a 2001 L, 2000 Silhouette premiere, and a 94 Altima. My insurance (full coverage) was about $155 per month. I have been with State Farm for 14 years without any tickets or chargeable accidents. My wife gets a speeding ticket (going 79 in a 65 zone) and my insurance goes up over a hundres dollars a month close to $260 per month. I talked to State Farm and they said it would stay that way for at least 3 years.
That's $3600 bucks in mods.....
Note: Because she was going faster than 75 mph and the speed limit was less than 70mph (it was 65) then it was a 4-point ticket instead of a 2-point ticket.
Insurance is such a racket.
Just a word to the wise....

I just got a ticket a couple of weeks ago for doing a 79 in a 60 (in my Plymouth Voyager no less). I never had my rates go up before for a speeding ticket, but this could be different. I'm sure I will find out soon enough. A lot of companies have been hurting since 9/11, and insurance companies are no different. They will probably try to make up lost income anyway they can.
A number of Cities/States are adopting "Criminal Speeding" laws, whereas if you are traveling 20 MPH or more over the speed limit, it is considered a misdemeaner.
Not only is it very costly in court/attorney fees and fines, but the insurance companies are capitalizing on the subject and really nailing their clients with rediculous rate hikes....

If you do the math ,with a typical five year loan ,and full coverage insurance you could almost purchase another truck.
Average insurance at $300 a month x 12 months = 3600 a year
3600 x five years = 18,000 dollars
Well I wouldnt say almost but close enough. Figure your loans interest and it would be over 20,000 dollars out the window....not including tickets, gas, and other little BS fees.
Geez, I should have started an insurance company to sit back and collect!

Well I wish I read this before I raced, of all things, a Suburban to 150 mph...ok, so I wasn't in my L, but while I was going home from work on my R1, I had to pass, what seemed to be a slower moving Subarban. So I was courteous, used my signals, and gave plenty of room before I merged in front of him. So I was going 75-80 mph, minding my own business, when I see him pulling up quickly right behind me. So I instinctively dropped to third gear and did a roll-on to 150 mph...leaving the poor bastard to inhale pure, raw R1 exhaust...I just left him behind...but then I realized I was in a speed trap area, and immediately slowed back to 'normal' speeds...I stayed in front until I pulled off a little further up, wondering if I was gonna see flashing lights. Luckily, no cops. Actually, it would've been more fun in the L!
But if I had read this post before the above events, I wouldn't have had my daily dose of excitement
I don't condone what I did, but under the circumstances, I felt he was about to 'bully' me, so I did what I thought was fair play...

Its a crying shame that if you get a ticket going 76 in a 65mph zone it is worse than going 50 in a 25mph zone as far as insurance companies look at it....

I have a motorcycle, mini-van, truck, & travel trailer; and neither the wife nor I have had a ticket in 20 years -- so we qualify for State Farm's "Good Driver Discount" -- which, supposedly, saves me hundreds every 6 months. The insurance company is hovering over me like a vulture, since they know the "average" driver gets a ticket every couple of years or so -- where I'd lose my "GDD" -- and if I'm ever cought on the motorcycle, I'm likely to be in the 4-6 points like AA_Expert's wife.
What makes things worse, I have a Commercial Driver License (CDL) -- where, if I get a ticket, I have only a couple days to notify my boss that I was a bad boy; and since it's a CDL, the state notifies everyone they can -- and then the vultures can come down and gorge on my wallet.
My son's thinking of moving (wink wink) to Texas, where they reportedly don't have a point system.
Are there any other states out there that are reasonable with respect to violations/insurance?

I would suggest you buy a mountain bike or take the bus, put that $3,600/yr in the market and get the corvette when you're 45.
BTW the ins. on my HD is $600/yr; 25yrs old; 1 speeding ticket (no ins adjustment).
buy out
I went seven years without a moving violation. Then got three in as many years. I hired an attorney each time. No insurance points makes the attorney's fees cheap!!!

It seems to be fairly easy to keep tickets off your record here too. You can take a driver safety course at least twice a year, and also get Deferred Adjudication (probation) for 90 days. After 90 days with out any other moving violations, the ticket is dismissed. I have gotten at least 6 tickets in the last year and a half, and still have a clean driving record.
Since the Illinois Tollway Authority was recently denied their request (temporarily) for jacking the tolls way up, and since the state is billions of dollars in the red, methinks there will be a LOT more speeding tickets written in the near future. Maybe they can shorten the yellow lights, like they got caught doing on the near west side last year. Why not just sell some more CDLs, Ryan?

Hey, anybody from Chicagoland ever felt really brave and tried to take I355 at 55mph? How many miles did you go before you scared yourself silly or got rearended?
