rods/pully question

Since all these engines are blowing, what mods do you think should be done when adding a pully? The given is a chip, new spark plugs, but is it really worth the hundreds of dollars for rods? I think so, just wondering before I spend a lot of money. How bout pistons? Just want to be safe.

BTW, no L yet, but within the year, hopin to have all my mods planned so as soon as I get the truck I can go crazy Just need a little more $$$.

I think you're 'jumping' too far ahead with your concerns over the ability of these engs. to handle mods safely--within certain limitations.

There are no guarantees as there are none in investing(I'm a stock broker) either. Having said that, I got into the high 12s with a 3lb pulley, chip, air kit, M/Ts, Royal Purple Synthetic Racing oil---everything else-stock-plugs, rods, etc. When I upgraded to a 5 lb pulley, I went to a 'colder' plug and a 160* thermostat to keep detonation at bay. Of course, my chip was retuned too.

I have 26,000 miles on my 01--and yes, it could break a rod this Fri. night when I race her again(almost weekly) but I do think you are 'jumping-the-gun'.
