03 Snake
I'm not an L owner so please extend me some latitude here. Many of the SVT Certified dealers in Dallas-Ft. Worth are wringing their hands in anticipation of taking the heads of prospective buyers and shooting some hoops with them. The dealer I've purchased 3 new Ford trucks from in the last 3 years is tacking on a "market adjustment" of $10K to MSRP. The production of "03 Cobras is slated to fall between 10 and 12 thousand units while the recently unvieled '03 Mustang Mach 1 (320 hp) will be limited to 6,500 units.
I was a player for the new Cobra but I refuse to pay above sticker. Frankly, paying full sticker makes me cringe. Still though, there are folks out there who'll pay whatever it takes to get an '03 Cobra and to be fair, I'm sure there are dealers who'll hold the line at MSRP.

With Ford/SVT
I say never buy the first year's models. Let everyone else get them and find out what needs to be fixed. Then get the second or third years models.

I won't buy first year's model and I will NEVER pay more than sticker for a North American made vehicle. Especially when the supply, resulting in high demand and above MSRP prices, is artificially controlled by the manufacturer.
For those of you who won't buy a first year model....you'll lose out....since the 2003 Cobra is only a 1 year car. Much like the Cobra Rs.
Secondly, I'd but one if I hadn't become aware that the next Cobra in the Pipelines is a Modular 5.0L. That will be a cooker.
Lastly, hold the line.....DO NOT pay over MSRP. When they have them sitting on their lots.....they'll wake up to reality. Just like the 2000 R models....that eventually were getting discounted. Only the suckers that have to be 1st in line get suckered.
I ALWAYS shop at the same SVT dealer, because they do not RAPE people with "market adjustments" on these so called "limited editions"!

Artificially controlled? Man we have people on here complaining that there are too many SVT's made a year..you are complaining that there aren't enough...I guess you can't make anyone happy.

BTW...the manufacturer doesn't make any extra money off of a car that is sold over sticker..so don't blame them.
I don't recall ever complaining that there 'aren't enough' SVT's. Re-read my post- I don't even mention SVT. I simply pointed out that part of the reason that there is this price gouging on any vehicle is due to the manufacturer. Specifically, either their inability to adequetly guage demand, or more commonly, not having enough initial stock on hand when a new model is launched. Sometimes this is accidental or by design. Like it or not it contributes to the problem. '91 NSX, '93 Camaro & Firebird, PT Cruisers, Vipers, '97 Corvette, '01 Z06. It has happened with all of these models at their time of introduction, and some of those I would not consider limited edition. The market settles down after a few month and the price returns to normal.
If you want to guage your vehicle's exclusivity by how much you pay over sticker then be my guest. Obviously you've got more money than the rest of us.
Lighten up.

First off...I think you are the one that needs to lighten up...I simply pointed out something that I found funny.
Second...Maybe you need to reread your post. This post was about the new Cobra, and in response you said that you would not buy a car in it's first model year (in reference to the terminator I would assume as that is what this post topic is about) especially when demand is high due to an artificially limited supply. You made it sound like manufacturers do this in order to line their pockets....I simply pointed out that this was not true...since Manufacturers don't make any extra money off of you when DEALER's bend you over by charging over sticker. It is impossible to estimate demand with dead accuracy...(which is what lead to problems with the PT Cruiser for example) If you build too much, then the manufacturer has to offer rebates..and that hurts their bottom line....build too few and you **** off customers. I'm sure if they had someone that could predict the future..they would use them.
I never said I guage a vehicles exclusivity by how much I pay over sticker...nor did I say ANYTHING that would in any way imply that. I would NEVER pay over sticker...in fact...I only paid a lil over 26 grand for the truck brand new. And I am recently out of college..so no, I prolly have less money than the rest of you. Sorry to dissappoint.
Now...let's go get a beer.

I have contacted several Metro Detroit dealers, and it is aofficial. THERE IS NO A-PLAN, X OR Z avaialble for the 2003 Cobra. Word has it, people are truley paying MSRP or above! I will wait and see around November, like previously posted in hopes of A-Plan!
I doubt Ford does not allow A-plan on em..it is prolly that the dealers don't want to give it to you....
Call enough dealers and you will find one...or wait till no one in detroit is stupid enough to pay Corvette money for a rustang...then they will be begging for your A-plan dollars.
