Question Using screws with slicks

Well I made this post on NLOC but noone wants to give me any info so I guess I will try here.

Before I made any passes yesterday I put a little line on my Baja's and Et Streets. Well after a few passes the passenger side moved 13" and the driver side moved 7"

"To screw, or not to screw, that is the question" :ccol:

What airpressure where you at? The ET's need to be around 17psi to work the best.... Anything less they will move....

Joe

It sounds like you have to put screws in if the tires are spinning on the rim.

You could also try raising the air pressure so the bead will hold tighter against the rim.

Do you have tubes in your tires? Screws and tubeless tires dont often mix.

I have the 10.5 E.T. streets screwed to the rims with tubes and have never had any problems.

I started at 18psi cold, then dropped them to 17psi cold then 16psi cold. I got my best times @ 16psi.

was that the first pass you had ever made on those tires/rims?

the first time i used my slicks, they both moved a little.. (2-3 inches on one side, 5-6 on the other)

they never moved again after that first time.. i believe it was from the water/soap solution they used at the shop to mount the tires.

Very interesting Brooks, I guess I never thought of that. It was the first time I have used them, so I hope that is the case.

Mine never moved and I used to run mine between 15 to 20 psi. I checked them every time I was at the track.

My Et's moved the first time I used them also, second time no movement, except that one went flat. I drove home on them Haven't fixed the slick so I have no other reports. Hope to get around to using my truck for something other than moving next week!

Joe, nice times. That MPH indicates that there is some ET left in the truck.

I have never had trouble with the ET Streets spinning. I run 15-17 lbs in ming, and have no tubes.

I think that Brooks is right. It is initially caused by the mounting lubricant left on the bead.
