Most speedos are a few mph fast. The manufacturers lawyers have them do it so they can't be sued when some pinhead takes a turn too fast and ends up in the ditch. The amount varies, but 2-8% seems about normal. OTOH, the odometers are usually quite a bit more accurate.

If you run slightly larger tires it'll 'correct' the speedo. For example, 235/70-16, 255/65-16, or 255/60-17 snow tires will have just about the right 'correction' factor.

Chances are, you will not be able to add a remote starter that will work with your existing alarm. There will be bypass issues. If you need both, you will need a starter/alarm combo.

What brand/model do you currently have for an alarm? Most 'decent' alarms have outputs to add options and are pretty much no problem.

Get back to us with brand/model and we will try to help

There is not a lot of places to hide it in the "L". Typically it would be well buried up in the drivers side dash. Possibly, behind one of the kick panels.

A good installer will have wrapped all the wires coming out of the module in black tape. This will not be the case with the factory wires. Try to find black wrapped wires and follow them back to the module.

Another place to check for wire is the power wire. There are typically two places an installer will take power from. Directly from the battery, in which case you will have a wire coming through the fire wall and should be easy to trace back, or power will be coming from the ignitiion harness. Either way, find this wire and follow back to the module.

I put a compustar in mine (alarm/starter). Two way paging system, so I always know whats going on with my ride.

I am interested in the CompuSTAR alarm. With the pager and all. Does anyone knwo what I should expect to pay for this?

What is MSRP?

What have other people paid?

Any problems for those who may have bought it?

I was just quoted $950.00US from a local isntaller. Seemed very high to me.

Thanks.

There is an alarm add-on for the remote start that still uses the factory key fob. I'll try to hunt down the manufacturer.

Keep in mind. When you add an after market remote start that uses another key fob, you loose the ability to do the door key pad modification that everybody loves.

Found this out the hard way when I had a Viper ESP 550 alarm and remote start installed.

The keypad in the door handle came stock on the 02s.If you have an 00 or 01 the wiring for it is in the door w/ harness(99s no harness). You just buy the color-coded door handle and a key pad and put it in the truck. If you do a search there is instructions.
Here is a pic of my 01 w/ the Keypad mod.

Ah, well I have the little "big" brother to the Lightning... I have a 2002 Harley-Davidson with the SC. I just know that the trucks, and it's owners are simular is why I cross posted.

Oh my God! I'm a cross poster!

Anyway, it does have the keypad. So you are telling me that this will be disabled when the alarm goes in then???

I have a 2003 Cobra on order... but I have been enjoying the truck so much (it's the wifes) that I have seriously been considering getting a Lightning now. Trying to decide about getting a '02 or wait to see what the '03 has to offer. There would be no question if they went to a dual bucket w/ center console-- that little bit would push me to wait.

Like the front in this photo.... damn, insteadof flams have lightning bolts on the center armrest.

Everyone is fond of the key pad? Not quite...personally I dont see the point. If i was gonna make a door mod, it would be to shave the handle altogehter, and just have an opener installed
just my .02

It's nice to be able to leave your truck running w/ the A/C on, lock it, and then come back and unlock it via the key pad
