Question Tools needed?

Does anyone have a picture of the tools needed to change out the stock lower pulley? I know a 14mm allen socket, but what else?

Thanks

Make a motor strap. I used a small piece of angle iron(the type used when you put up a garage door opener) and strapped the motor using the torque converter nut and the housing of the transmission. Once you get the motor locked so it can't turn, the hardest part is bustin' that lower pulley loose.

HOLD ON TIGHT, that stock pulley is a *&^%$ to get off. It took all I had to break it loose with a 2 foot cheater bar.

1/2 breaker bar(for use with the 14mm allen), 1/2 in, 9/16, 5/8 3/8 drive sockets, 3" extension. and the engine lock bracket(the 14mm allen and lock can be bought from sal@psp)

Other than that your done (i listed the 3 sockets and can't remember which two i used, but most people have all three)

Here's a pic of the allen socket and the strap. The strap should be fairly easy to make. Hope this helps.

Remember two things:

1. The crank bolt is a left-hand thread.

2. Remove the 'strap' that immobilizes the eng. before you start the eng.

Excellent mod!

put the strap on the DRIVER'S side of the tranny housing and screw the bolt for the tranny housing in as much as possible.

Thanks for all the replies!!! 2 more questions.. about how long is the strap ( I can make it at work)? and with a 4# pulley, what is the length, part number for a new belt? I would rather not break off the nub.

Thanks again!

3/32" X 1/2" bar stock

7 1/4" overall length

6 3/8" center to center for the holes

15/32" holes

You're welcome

Another Alternative

I happened upon this set of pulley install instructions the other day. This crude approach doesn't require the strap to anti-rotate the motor. Check it out HERE

Does the socket have to be short? I have one but it is longer.

Any different belt??

I think there is room for a longer one but with such force being applied to it to break the bolt loose, it would be better if it was short (less chance of misalignment leading to slipping out of the hole). It may not be a problem at all. Give it a try.

The belt, just knock the tensioner tab off. It's the easiest way and works great. If you just have to get a new belt, take the factory belt with you and get the next biggest size. It's real close to fitting anyway so the next size up would fit. I don't know a part number. I snapped the tab off of mine.

Thanks, Jim
