I agree,, and i've heard them in person,, unbeleivable, the ones i heard in person were in an expedition,, there were three of them and the setup actually had an amp,, just to power an amp,, tough to explain,, but basically used an amp to shoot power to another amp with plenty of capaciters,, very interesting actually, it was shaking the entire building at car tunes including the garage.

and yes there are small subs, medium subs, large subs,, and freaken huge subs out there

Here is my set up 3 JL 10W6's powered by an Orion 800w amp, i still think my 2 12W6's in my old TransAm were louder but my new setup sounds good.

Thumbs up

LightninSVT, that a nice box you have there. I have been looking for a design like that.

I have 3 10w'3 and wondered if they could work behing the seat of the L, now I know they can.

Could you post the specifications of that box or email it to me at

leighton@candw.ky.

The 5 channel V12 is NOT enough power for the JL ws6 that I am running though... I will likely get an amp just for the sub....

What kind of box is that custom or premade?

lightningsvt,,, you could get an extra 4 decibals of souns with a ported box if your short enough,, really though in my own opinion,,, ( non professional) I beleive if you powered those subs with a larger amp you would get much much much better sound, in fact, i'm almost certain of it, if you really have 10w6's they should be able to handle much more rms power, i mean i run almost 180 rms to each 10wO,, which by the way i think is way way way the best bang for the buck, by far, even though the w3's and others really really rock.

Sorry i havent got back to anyone, i forgot i posted it, haha

Fowl: I will get you those specifications as soon as I can, i'll have to go measure it for you.

whitetoast11: I really think that a 800 watt amp is pretty good to power the W6's, they are built to run very efficient at 0.5 ohm. The older Orions were very underrated, and i'm sure its pushing out more than that. I mean I could go with maybe thier new 275G4 amp, but as you can probably imagine i'm a little short of space, haha. That amp goes from the back of the seat as you see there, and it almost sticks out the front its so long, the new series is even longer!
Also, i needed the sealed box, they only take about .6 cubic feet each that way, i need all the room i can get at 6'4"

RiddlerGT: Yes, the arm rest does hit the box but it does a good job of holding it in place, all I have to do is slide the seat up about 4 inches, put the armrest up, and then slide the seat back. Not too much of a pain in the a$$. The box was also custom built, yes.

I ended up going with a JL 10w4 and an Alpine amp. The amp is mounted under the passenger seat, and the sub is in a custom box behind that seat. I had already removed the CD changer in favor of the 6 disc indash radio, so I just cut the behind the seat console in half to make room for the sub. The box is covered with grey carpet to match the interior, and the sound is excellent. I had to turn down the gain to match my tastes, as it actually has too much bass otherwise.

A local shop installed the whole setup, with the amp, sub, custom box, line converters and labor running $390 total. Did a real good job... if any central Florida people need stereo, check out Hi-Way Hifi.
