i have a 2000 lowrider with the 103 stroker and its a blast to ride.i have a 2002 roadking that is my long distance bike and it rideslike a lincoln.been riding 30 plus years and all kind of bikes but by far the best over all bike i have had is my vrod.no,its not the harley we all are used to,no,it doesnt sound like a harley, but its one fun bike.
If you want to stay out of trouble you need the bike I sold 2 weeks ago. 1981 CM400A Hondamatic 2 speed, no clutch, no get up and go, but fun to ride.
Sold it on a Saturday, and got my new bike on Monday. A CB900 custom. 10 speed, saddle bags, and it has some get up and go
With room for 2.

My guess is if you get the R1 and it's the first bike you've ridden than the only smearing that's going to take place is most of you on the asphalt. I wouldn't suggest an R1 to my worst enemy as a first bike...however, if you have experience than I wouldn't hesitate to tell you to go for it. You may want to see how the new CBR954RR looks too...more civil riding position and the hp's about equal. If you really want to blur things and make 90-degree turns at will then look at the GSX-R1000. Weighs next to nothing (not quite as light as the CBR though), has 10 hp more than anything else in its class and turns as well as any of the other open class bikes.
