Sort of raced a bike today!!!!
Well needless to say i am very impressed with the flying silver brick LOL
A few of my freinds and I went out to Pensacola beach today to take some pics and bull **** around some.
On the way out there we hit a stretch of straight road and the guy in front (single turbo supra) hit from about 35 to 90 or so and my other freind on the bike (cbr600 mild mods) hit with me right behind. He missed his downshift and I had to get out of it to avoid running over him so after I see him start to pull away i mash the loud pedal once again. I was amazed in the fact that he did not pull me at all and we stayed the same distance apart the whole way :yeah:
He said he was going WOT all the way. So i am very inmpressed to say the least, these trucks are amazing.

Anyone for a shifter class?
Tell him next time to drop it to 3rd instead of 5th. Dude there is no way in hell that a Lightning can stay right with a CBR 600! I raced a Lightning on my 2001 yz600f R6 and I was playing with him! Not trying to be mean but it's the truth.
Dude i am telling the truth and yeah i was dumbfounded too!!!! I expected to watch him pull mutliple car lenghts on me but it did not happen that way......I heard him shift atleast 3 times because i was that close too him.

I ran one of those couple weeks ago. I have the same mods as Bob, just dont have the headers(yet). Younger black guy driving it, we left the light and he pulled about 3 lengths on me at the start, but that was it! He couldnt pull any further and I couldnt gain on him neither. It stayed that way till about 110 when we backed out due to traffic coming up........fast! Oh, the traffic we ran up on........was a city cop!!!
Why he didnt pull us over is beyond me, he just flashed his lights and pointed at us..........we got the message!!
The guy on the bike gave a thumbs up as he turned off and I returned the gesture. If it had been a 929 or a Busa, it would have gotten ugly real quick!! I was surprised I kept up that well too! The guy on the bike said he had run 11.5's on it at the track. I really dont know what they're capable of. Does that time sound correct for a 600? So whatever 3-maybe 4 lengths is time wise in the 1/4, thats where Im at.

The only way a lightning will stay close to a bike is if you are racing on the yellow brick road on your way to OZ. I could be wrong but I think new breed 600s will run way into the 11s with your average rider, and dip into the tens with a flywieght rider who knows how to ride.I like my Lightning as much as the next guy but I also know its limitiations.I speak from experiance as I have owned a vast amount of very fast bikes over the last 20 years or so including a 2000 ZX12R,99 AND 2000 zx9R, and to many others to list.I am not trying to Diss you in any way,I am just stating the cold hard facts.Unless its a Harley dont waste your time,Most any Lightning can spank a Harley,Inline 4 cylinder ricers are another story.
My touring bike, a Honda ST1100, will pull easy mid-low 12's all day long. It's considered a moderately slow bike. You'd better have a heck of a list of mods to keep up. Even my slow pig Moto Guzzi Jackal will run even with a stock, very well driven Lightning.
Either your CBR rider didn't have a clue about how to shift, or he was messing with you. Those things should pull low 11s easily.
