Need some longtube info....
Need some longtube info....
Ok, well I am alittle pissed off. I have been running this race gas from a station here for the past 2 months and now my problem has started. I was told it was 100octUNLEADED but it is becoming clear is has lead in it. I am getting alot of Grey in the pipes and I think my cats are cloged now. The truck is running like pure trash and it shows symptoms of the cats being backed up. Ok enough talk about that....
I guess since I am going to need to do exhaust work now, I might as well get the good stuff. I have the cat back, I want to add the longtubes & high flow cats. Sal sells the same ones that JDM does so you guys with them can help me answer some questions. I have read many threads on it but I want some honest opinions please....
1- Are they really good quality?
2- Are they decent to install? NO major moving of stuff?
3- Is it a complete kit? All parts & bolts?
Thanks for any info you can give!!
I know tomm when I talk to Sal he will answer alot of my questions but I needed to write this out while it was in my head..

My opinions:
1) The quality is very good.
2) Installation of the headers was extremely easy compared any LT installation i've done on a Mustang, they literally just slipped right in. You only need to remove the front wheels and inner fender liners move a wire harness to the side temporarily and remove the dipstick(reinstall after headers are in).
3) Mine came with everything neccessary to install the kit except for the bolts to attach the collector and cats together. Also, the clamps that came with mine were the wrong size. No instructions were included but I made a phone call to clarify part of the installation.
My dissapointment with these headers/cats is their performance. I only dropped 1 tenth ET at the track and only gained .5 mph If I would have known that my ET would not drop 3-4 tenths like they claim I would not have made the purchase.

Ditto...what Incon306 said and what Dr. said....I was expecting my truck to be a totally different Animal...No it didn't happen like that though, and I even had added 3 more # of boost and had Sal re-burn my chip...still isn't the truck I want it to be!!! Am gonna have JDM do a chip while they're in GA to see if its in programming!!!

Cannot tell you any info on the Kook headers but i do have the LPP LongTube Stepheaders on and have been to the dyno every week for the last month and there is absolutely no gain at all in HP or torque with them and went to the track and saw no improvement in ET or MPH from last year in the same air conditions!
By the way i took my bassani catback off and installed a metco upper this week and guess what i picked up 6HP and 15pounds of torque!See Sig. for dyno #'s!

I went backwards in ET and time when I installed the full system,,,,, headers all the way back. However, I called Sal and we went over the mods. I had the TR5 spark plugs, he said with 4lb pulley I needed BR7s or IT20s. He told me the BR7s would missfire when the engine was cold and IT20s wouldn't. The IT20s are expensive compared to the BR7s.
I elected to get some IT20s (note if you are running more than the 4lb pulley I think Sal is now reccomending the IT24s). After the IT 20s were installed, I ran .4 faster and finally went into the 12s.
This is hype on my truck and I realize each truck is different. LIGHTNINROD (Dan) was there and watched the greif I had after the new header back JDM system. Then he was there after the spark plug change and saw .4 sec difference.
Ditto on all the parts except the collector bolts came in the kit. I had to file the ***** off the oxygen sensor extension wires that came with mine for them to plug in.

So, what you're saying is that you made absolutely no changes (running same exact chip with no reburn) other than a sparkplug change. The weather conditions were the same also and you picked up 4 tenths.
LTNBOLT:
I don't remember the weather conditions but I think if anything, it may have been a tad warmer when Ron ran his second time with the Denzos. It was at the same track--and my times were a little slower than the week before so Ron's L picked up
cosiderably.
I don't have any LTs but plan to get JDM/Sal's one day--and, I have the IT24 Denzos on order.

Hey Chuck,
You didnt know that the Denso's are worth 4 tenths
thats why i use the IT20's!Seriously though they are a really good plug my favorite so far and i have dynoed them twice now and the 1st time i gained 2HP over stock platinums and the 2nd time i gained 5HP installing a new set a couple weeks ago! They run really smooth in the upper power range and i have never had to replace one yet!

Matt,
I don't doubt they are good plugs but I haven't tested a plug yet (except the Autolite 103) that didn't feel better than the stockers.
Let's be honest, do you really think 5 HP equates to 4 tenths? That would be a good gain to get out of a chip.

Chuck,
We both know that any of the plugs we try are not anywhere near 4 tenths, maybe a tenth and that is even stretching it!
I never saw any noticeable gain at the track with mine but i just like how they make my truck idle and run at high RPM band!

Matt,
That's the exact point I'm making. I have never ran a plug that made more than a tenth and I'd have a hard time even justifying that. The only measurable difference that I have been able to record is a mile and a half per hour faster trap speeds with the TR5 or Splitfire over the TR6. I have changed them back and forth enough times to say these are the absolute facts in my neck of the woods.
Throttle response and idle quality are different in plugs which a factor in considering which plug you like to run. ET has never been a big factor which is why I asked the question.
