Gear Ratio

I know that the 99/00s have a final gear ratio of 3.55 and the 01/02s have a final ratio of 3.73. I have seen people talking about when they change the size of the rim/tire, like going from factory to 20s, the ratio changes. I get why this happens but have a few questions. 1 is the final ratio with the factory wheels 3.73 or is that just what the gears are and 2 what is the final ratio when you switch to the chrome 01 20 replicas with the dunlops.

thanks

Hey J15Big, yes the gear ratio on the 01's with the factory 18's and 295's on them yeild a 3.73 to 1 ratio. But like my 20 inch rims and tires they actually turn my 3.73's in to a 3.59 since i have larger diameter tires.

thanks for the info
if you were to swap the 3.73s for 4.10 and use the 20s what ratio would you yield?

thanks

The Orphaner - What effect would the larger tires have on your speedometer and odometer reading? Thanks for the help.

larger diameter... number of revolutions per mile decreases. Your speedometer will read slow and varies by the revolutions per mile of the larger tire.

Your PCM can be changed up to about 660 revolutions per mile ( has programing for tire size with revolutions per mile). Or you can give your tuner the information and he can program your chip.

Hey Nostreetracing.....it makes my speedo off about 3 mph at 60. Slower...so i dont rack up that many miles. Just think about it..im driving 5% more than my odometer shows....the benefits outweight the negatives so i leave it be.
