Oily Goop
I know this is old news, but when it comes to keeping my Lightning clean, I try real hard. After reading awhile back about some "or most" Lightnings having some oil residue in their air intake tubes, I just had to look. Yep..it was there! I really haven't done much to my 01 except put the wet okolie seat covers on and a bed rug. So I thought seeing that I hadn't done any mods to the engine, I would not have that problem. I remember someone stating that he or she called the SVT people and asked how to cure this. Something about putting in only 5 or 5 1/2 quarts in instead of the required 6. I called them a couple days ago and they were real helpful and said that, yes, they knew this was happening and they were working on the problem. He said it had to do with the pvc plumbing and vacum sucking the oil up after getting on it and letting up. He also said that it would not hurt the truck in any way. He also said that they were telling the SVT service tech's any anyone who called about it, to just put in 5 1/2 quarts instead of 6. He also said that they have gotten quite a few calls reporting back that it seemed to help the situation. My husband says that I should have kept my '94 Lightning and I wouldn't have to worry about the small stuff. Love my 01 though!!
You are correct. I know mine has the oil in the intake too. I'm putting 5 1/2 quarts in the next oil change. I wouldn't go any less than 1/2 quart below factory reccomendations, unless the oil is still excessive in the intake.
