Any chance a 170 tstat could cause a truck to run too rich?

I want to put one in my L, but I drive this truck everyday, and don't want to drop my mpg lower than the 12 I am getting now! On the other hand, I do run the truck hard, and do not want any detonation. Thanks in advance for any input!

I run a 160 and it does rich. But then again it is chipped and runs
too rich. They all run rich stock. Better rich than Broke....

Jimmy:

I ran my 01 L hard and drove it daily with a 3 lb pulley, chip, and filter for many miles and got it into the high 12s--still using the stock, 180* 'stat. I don't think you need to worry about detonation until you get a 4 lb pulley or higher.

I run a 160* 'stat now because of the 5 lb pulley I now have. Yes, mine runs 'rich' bu t I still get 14+ mpg.

Twisted99 and LIGHTNINROD:

Where did you get your 160degree stat from? Having trouble finding them.
