Is that a "real" lightning?

Someone asked me today if my truck was a "real" lightning. It was a total stranger in a parking lot... He said he "wanted to make sure" because they're "easy to fake"... ??
I told him "I think it is"... and popped the hood for him. I didn't have to... but I felt offended, and like I had to defend myself, or something.
I didn't think anyone would look at me and think "Another guy with a fake lightning..." Does this happen to everyone else?

Talking

Never had it happen to me (guess I don't drive my truck that much), but if it did I'd probably tell 'em yeah, its really a Honda Civic with a body kit, or sumpin, and then leave a couple of stripes as I left.

Happens to me all the time.

I'm glad you said something, I was starting to think I was the only one it happened to.

It's irritating, huh?

I haven't really encountered anyone that thought it was a fake (so far). What I do find is that people don't know what a Lightning is. On four occasions, I've had people comment on the customizing job I've done on my truck. "Nice wheels, nice body kit- where did you get them?"- stuff like that. They seem genuinely shocked to find that it came from the factory that way.

I find in my experiences with this, if you lower your right foot pretty firmly on the accelerator............it answers everyone's doubts!! Plus, you get to experience that warm fuzzy feeling of being b**** slapped back into the seat!!

No, it's actually a Lightning R. They only made 10 and you own 9 of them. The other one was totaled the first time Ford tried to test it in the 1/4 mile....too much power. Soon as they launched the truck, the bed flew off the back and bent the frame. It's totaled.

I've never gotten asked if my truck was a real Lightning, but I get asked very often if "it came like that", referring to the wheels, ground effects and side exhaust. "Yep, comes like that right from Ford". "Really? That's way cool".

When you said it "comes from ford like that", it reminded me of an online review I read on the L that said "somewhere along the production line it got waylayed by rogue canadians... (SVT) " I thought that was pretty funny

I've been asked that numerous times along with "did it come like that". I don't take it in a negative way, rather that the L is so rare that someone would try to copy it.

Give some credit to those people who actually ask about your Lightning! It's those who stand there with their hands on their hips and just gawk. You have to wonder what they're thinking!

It's all those compliments that make my day. Never heard anything negative about the way the truck looks or runs. Now on the other hand, you're not going to impress too many Nascar drivers.

I've seen a NASCAR F150. There's one always parked near where I work... with the black wheels and stickers and stuff... what are those? Are they fast?
