catback systems

Other than better sound do you really gain anything else from a catback system? Do you need a chip reburn if you get one? I know most of you will say why don't you buy the full meal deal, but mod money is starting to run a little low and I want a better sound w/ possibly a little more power. thanks.

All I know is that it used to be fun to make everyone look twice when they heard the s/c wind up. I've heard everything from it sounds like a jet to it sounds like a remote control car, which came from a girl I took out that actually knew what a Lightning was w/o me telling her. Now that I have new mods that should put me in the 12's hopefully, and w/ the encouragement of my friends, I want to sound like I mean business. But, like I said I just can't see forking out $1600+ for a complete package right now. Thanks for your replies!!!

JDM Silver Bullet Cat-Back

Pretty sure cheaper then Bassini and the tips are awesome.I have it and a lot of people tell me it sounds like an old muscle car.
Worth about 10 h.p.
It is a new system so most guys(or gals) have the bassini. The JDM S.B. is worth taking a look at.

I have checked out both systems, I just didn't want to start a war between brands. That seems to happen alot on this board sometimes. I have heard good things about both. I think I might lean toward the silver bullet because I do like the tips, the price is better, and lately people have been saying good things about it.

Beleive it or not i have yet to run my L, been to flat rock speadway before but its closed down now, also been out to milan and norwalk (think thats how you spell norwalk at least) but yet to run the L,,, bought her in the winter,, she is only about 4 months old. Can't wait for spring and summer though. Dont forget bassani tips are wonderful looking too, but if it does come down to price for you then maybe silver bullet is good. I actually plan on getting the rest of the exhaust system before spring is out ( meaning the long tubes and high flow cats from jdm or other tuner)

Have fun when you finally get the truck to sound like the beast of all trucks that it is, just think, now the only whining you will hear is rice burners complaining about the noise of your truck. and well, dont worry, you'll still hear the blower loud and clear as well.

I've got long tubes, high flow cats, and Bassani. I absolutely LOVE it!

My wife says it sounds like a wild animal "talking". I don't know where she got the description from but the other day I was sitting in the driveway, after the engine was warmed up, revving the engine up to 4000 rpm's over and over again. That's when she told me that.

The Bassani catback sounded good, through the original headers, but when I put the LT headers and cats on it changed the tone drastically.

Save your money till you can get the full deal. You won't regret it, guaranteed!!!

loose:

I too have to wait on the headers but I did have the JDM/Magnaflow(#14568-single muffler/internal X-pipe) all-stainless-steel system.

I have 3,000 miles on it now and the sound is mellow--not raucous and my ets continue to drop--gradually. The huge(4 1/2" each) stainless tips are beautiful. The tail pipes(and tips) are formed to allow plenty of room for Truck-Traks or other traction devices.

My best et before the c/b was a 12.697@107.02 and after, it was a 12.673@107.72--same track. Not much difference true, but it didn't 'back-up' ...

The shop that did my dyno last week had a 2001 L in there. Day 1 bone stock dyno run for his base line. Day 2 dyno run with the Bassani full meal deal headers to tips. Smaller loss of power across the band. Not much, but no gains. Save your money for long tubes.
